Descripción

Musk Aswad by Abdul Karim Al Faransi is a woody oriental fragrance for men. Launched in 2015, the nose behind this composition is Anthony Abdul Karim Marmin. The top notes unfold with prune and vanilla; the heart reveals honey, vetiver and woody notes; while the base notes close the olfactory pyramid with musk and amber.

  • Musk Aswad is that black, animalic, sweet musk – potent and masculine, though it has a nuance I’d love to try on a woman; in Arabic perfumery, the line between men’s and women’s scents is very blurred, so although Abdul labelled it as highly masculine, I adore its androgyny: it’s sensual, carnal and super animalic. It’s linear, with few changes, a blend of musk and vetiver, very animalic and dirty, yet balanced by the sweetness of prune, honey and a hint of vanilla. That sweetness prevents it from being unpleasant and lends it that dirty character. Sometimes I thought it was a beautiful floral musk, but it was just a distant impression, as there was no trace of flowers when worn on the wrist. This is the scent throughout its evolution: at first, the sweet notes and the prune are more intense, then they fade until the perfume clings to the skin. Without a doubt, it’s a dark musk with plenty of explicit material; in another era, this would have been censored… simply beautiful. The performance is excellent; it has stayed on my skin for over 10 hours with a very noticeable trail for at least the first two hours, then drops to moderate and gradually fades until it disappears. I achieved this with a minimal amount, and for me, it’s totally unisex. Ideally, wear it at night, between winter, autumn and spring; I don’t think it suits summer as it could be overpowering, although as I always say, this is relative and everyone knows when to use it. I’ve loved it; it’s a very sexual and animalic aroma that surprised me because I’m not a fan of scents with heavy musk notes, but this one has hooked me – perhaps it’s down to age or my sense of smell is maturing, hehe. If you like musks with sexual connotations, you must try it; highly recommended for its very low price and outstanding performance, being one of the most affordable in the house.
