Descripción
Nirmala by Molinard is an oriental floral fragrance for women. Launched in 2017, this composition features an olfactory pyramid crafted by the perfumer. The top notes unfold the exuberance of passion fruit, mandarin, and grapefruit. The heart of the fragrance reveals the sweetness of mango, the florality of hibiscus, and the elegance of jasmine. Finally, the base notes settle with the warmth of vanilla, the complexity of tonka bean, and the soft wood of sandalwood and cedar.

We’ve discussed perfumes that smell like sweat before, and Nirmala came to mind, along with Anitarosal. I’ve read that others get that sweaty impression, and I think it makes sense: the blend of passion fruit and grapefruit gives a damp aroma, similar to blackcurrant and cassis. I also read that for some, grapefruit smells like sweat on the skin, but fortunately, Nirmala is a hit with me and smells fantastic. It resembles Angel, sharing a similar vibe, but more than Angel, it reminds me of Innocent – the truth is, they are remarkably similar! I’ve read that Thierry Mugler was inspired by Nirmala to create Angel because his mother used it, what a beautiful tribute. Many people say Angel (1992) was the first gourmand, a pioneer, but mm, nope! I mentioned Angel as one of the first, but besides Nirmala, created in 1955 (wooo!), I can think of others like those from Comptoir Sud Pacifique or Vanille Mokha (1976), which are definitely gourmands and were created much earlier. I’ve gone off-topic -___-. Nirmala is a rich tropical perfume: it begins with a blackcurrant-like scent (probably passion fruit and grapefruit), followed by a creamy mango that becomes sweeter and more vanilla-infused, with a base that is musky, creamy, and slightly floral. I definitely prefer Nirmala to Innocent. The longevity and sillage are quite decent 😀 Brilliant!

I’ve read that others get that sensation, and I think it makes sense: the combination of passion fruit and grapefruit creates something damp, reminiscent of blackcurrant or cassis. Also, some people find grapefruit smells like sweat on the skin, but Nirmala is absolutely my favourite and smells incredible. It resembles Angel, sharing a similar vibe, but for me, it recalls Innocent much more – they are remarkably similar! Since this brand isn’t available in Mexico, I bought it blind. I already own several Molinards and have loved them, but this is the exception. The opening is super sweet, and that combination of tropical fruits, especially passion fruit with mango, just doesn’t suit my skin; it smells like sweat and feels very spicy. It doesn’t improve with time. In English, they say it resembles Mugler’s Angel, and perhaps it does, as I don’t enjoy it either. Obviously, it’s my pH that doesn’t play nice with the perfume, and I’ve realised that mango or passion fruit scents just don’t work for me. If you like Angel and are looking for something fruitier, you might enjoy this; its price online is very economical, and it might work better for you than it did for me.

As a huge fan of tropical scents, I absolutely adore Nirmala. Its opening is sensational, with lots of passionfruit accented by that zesty grapefruit note that sets it apart from the overly sweet tropicals flooding the market. This is far from one of those sugar-coated gourmands; Nirmala has real character and isn’t your typical beachy fragrance. As it dries down, the passionfruit recedes considerably, giving way to more sophisticated notes that feel elegant and urban rather than summery. For me, it’s the standout discovery from Molinard this year and my favourite perfume from this French house.
As a lover of tropical scents, Nirmala is simply fantastic. The opening is incredible, featuring plenty of passion fruit and a zesty grapefruit note that saves it from the typical cloying sweetness of modern tropical fragrances. It’s not a sugary gourmand flooding the market; it has real personality. As it dries down, the passion fruit recedes and less beachy notes emerge, making it elegant and urban. It’s my top find from Molinard this year and my favourite from the French house.
The opening is juicy from the off, with freshly opened mango and passion fruit, bright, sweet and slightly tart. Then the fruit loses its shine and blends with flowers that add elegance. The jasmine isn’t dramatic; it’s a white veil that tames the tropical heat. As it settles, it becomes creamy, nostalgic and intimate. In the final phase, it smells of wet earth under the sun after a summer storm. Nirmala is a tropical stroll at dusk, with light but signalling the end of the day. As you turn the corner, you see your favourite bar and a woman sipping a golden cocktail through the glass. You feel compelled to try it and sit down with a view of the sea. It’s that light joy that invites you to stray, to improvise and to savour the unexpected.
The opening is juicy from the very first second, with that blend of mango and passionfruit that seem freshly picked… bright, sweet, and slightly tart all at once. After a few minutes, the fruit loses its fresh pulp sheen and melts into flowers that add a touch of elegance. The jasmine here isn’t dramatic; it’s a white veil that tames the tropicality and lends a more serene shape. The evolution doesn’t stop there; once the perfume has settled, a new interplay of notes emerges, making it creamier, more nostalgic, and more intimate. Even in its dry-down, it seems to evoke the scent of damp earth warming under the sun after a summer shower. Nirmala reminds me of a tropical walk at dusk, when there’s still light but the day is announcing its end. You decide to head home, round the corner, and catch a glimpse of your favourite cocktail bar. Through the glass, you see a woman taking a sip of a golden drink. You’re tempted to taste her flavour and, almost without thinking, decide to take a seat by the sea to discover that cocktail. That perfume is that light joy that invites you to stray from the path, to improvise, and to savour the unexpected.
