  I dove straight into seeking Oud after trying Tom Ford Oud Wood, and Al Faransi Maluku is, so far, the most wearable from their brand. It’s more Western and sweet, lacking the wild opening of Oud Hindi or the dryness of Oud Cuire. These essences aren’t for everyone; it’s a taste that’s earned without prejudice and with a sense of humour. I highly recommend buying samples; I don’t understand why commercial brands don’t do this. It seems like an Al Faransi innovation that turns these oils into a journey and an exploration rather than a signature scent. I advise against buying in quantity without trying first. I’ll probably place more sample orders; it’s fascinating, terrible and beautiful. I say terrible because some openings are so radical they seem like camel stables, cured leather shops or bazaar sweat, until they dry to reveal burning wood in a desert bonfire at night.
