Descripción

The Library Collection Opus IX by Amouage is an oriental fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2015, this composition was created by Nathalie Lorson and Pierre Negrin. The top notes unfold with jasmine, camellia, and black pepper; the heart reveals beeswax, leather, and guaiac wood; while the base notes settle on aloeswood, ambergris, and vetiver.

  • It is the embodiment of what they call animalic jasmine. This fragrance is a scandalous, piercing, sweet, and luxurious jasmine. I feared it might not work on skin, but it performs excellently: moderate trail, yet very noticeable and long-lasting. This scent has the power of a vintage classic but the character of something modern and utterly unconventional. As for value for money… it’s worth every penny. I was genuinely surprised.

  • It is the very essence of the animalic jasmine everyone talks about. A scandalous, piercing, sweet, and luxurious jasmine. At first, I thought it wouldn’t suit skin, but it works wonderfully: moderate trail, very noticeable, and long-lasting. It possesses the strength of a vintage classic with the character of something modern and unconventional. Value for money… it’s worth every cent. I was surprised.

  • Oh dear, oh dear… 🌸 🐝 This Opus IX isn’t for everyone, and certainly not something to buy blind. Basically, it’s an indolic jasmine that dominates, accompanied by beeswax which gives it a very peculiar scent, almost plastic or waxy. These two notes rule everything. In the background, there’s soft leather and a touch of civet, though the least aggressive. Opus IX has power and is impossible to ignore. It’s masculine (a woman can wear it if she likes the challenging) and has good performance. Usage is limited, only for mornings. I love indolic scents; I adore Symphonie de Neroli, one of the most challenging from Bortnikoff, but the beeswax in Amouage was too much for me: it’s very ‘waxy’ and the last time it gave me nausea until I washed it off; I simply didn’t want to wear it on my skin. I tried it several times on different days (even stopped using it for years), but my decision is final: I hate it. A complex and difficult offering from Amouage, and yes, also discontinued.
