Descripción
Uncut Gem by Frederic Malle is a woody musky floral fragrance for men. Launched in 2022, this composition was created by perfumer Maurice Roucel. The top notes unfold with ginger, bergamot, angelica, mandarin, and nutmeg; the heart reveals vetiver, frankincense, leather, and magnolia; while the base notes settle with musk, amber, ambroxan, cedar, and labdanum.

Although it went unnoticed the first time, now, after just a couple of days of use, it’s a serious contender for purchase. My wife says something peculiar: that the scent doesn’t drive her mad but, at the same time, she likes it and can’t stop smelling it, that it has something addictive. The opening is really good; I love the ginger and the spiciness of the dry down has a modern vibe that’s quite pleasant when it hits you in the air without expecting it. It lasts all day with a single spray from a small decant, so I imagine the original bottle must be a longevity bomb. I have no doubt it will become a classic for FM, even with so many negative reviews for now. To sum up, a very addictive fragrance, perhaps generic (of very high quality in its notes, that’s for sure) but which works very well due to its versatility.
A fragrance that won’t leave a lasting impression on those who smell it. With a generic, cologne-like, ambered and slightly musky scent, it’s hard not to think of other similar men’s perfumes. At over €300, it’s an option not worth considering within the same house. It’s an all-rounder, masculine scent that seems to have decent performance at first. Official, going for a drink, daily wear… those are its territories. Roucel’s return to FM won’t be a success.
A fragrance that won’t weigh on the memory of those who smell it. With a generic, cologne-like, amber, and slightly smoky aroma, one can’t help but think of other masculine-cut and similar fragrances. Certainly, at over £300, it’s an option not to be considered within the same house. An all-rounder, masculine fragrance that appears to have correct performance in initial tests. Official, taking a drink, daily wear… Those are its territories. Roucel’s return to FM won’t be a success.
Tempered vetiver, woody yet fresh. Elegant, sober, classic. It has great character and although it recalls echoes of traditional masculine formulas, it has a fresh and light part that makes it beautifully unisex, turning it into one of those ‘men’s’ fragrances I always feel like wearing, as I do with Eau d’Issey or Egoïste.
I believe this fragrance deserves more attention, so I feel compelled to share my thoughts. Without a doubt, it is one of the brand’s finest masculine references. Upon trying it, both I and those around me noticed it is no ordinary scent; it leaves a halo of cleanliness, masculinity, elegance, and neatness that many rivals would envy. The opening is spectacular: sharp ginger with a very prominent angelica, creating a rich citrus, floral, and spicy blend. It then transitions into a subtle incense supported by an exquisite amber-vetiver combo. It’s a perfect synergy of citrus, a non-ecclesiastical incense, and an amber base that ensures no single note dominates, achieving an ideal balance for that clean, spicy, metallic, modern, and masculine effect. Longevity is outstanding and the trail is powerful. It is a gem from the house, a top-tier reference for classy daily wear. Guaranteed compliments; on the first day I wore it, two strangers asked about it. For me, it’s a 9.5 out of 10.
I think it isn’t given justice, which is why I’m writing my opinion. At first glance, one of the best and most enjoyable masculine references from the house. I wore it once and realised this isn’t simple perfume; this jewel leaves a halo of cleanliness, masculinity, elegance, and neatness that many of the fragrances it’s compared to would kill for. The opening is spectacular: sharp ginger with a prominent note of angelica, a rich, spicy-floral citrus charge. It gives way to a subtle incense while resting on an exquisite amber-vetiver combo. It’s like that, a perfect synergy of citrus, non-ecclesiastical incense, and amber base. This means no single note stands out and the balance is perfect to create the clean, spicy, metallic, modern, and masculine effect. Gentlemen, the longevity is outstanding and the trail is potent. A jewel of the brand, a top reference in classy daily wear fragrances. Compliments guaranteed; in fact, on the first day I wore it, two strangers came up to me. For me, it’s a 9.5 out of 10.
As rightly said, Uncut Gem is a generic, very generic fragrance, with quality notes. That’s it. There’s nothing more. Another fragrance that, meh, neither moves nor surprises nor justifies the price they ask. Does it last well? Yes, but one expects more. Well, this is my last attempt to buy a Frederic Malle. I give up. I tested it on skin for several days, with decants or samples, I think ten in total. Total indifference, so game over.
Rich and easy to wear. They may say it’s a hybrid between Blue de Chanel and Polo Blue Parfum, but it’s nothing special if something is rich. Its high cost, good performance, and trail make it that supercharged hybrid. It lasts a long time and gets lots of compliments; you feel the scent bursts constantly.
I liked it, although my partner says it smells a bit old-fashioned. Apart from that, it’s easy to wear and lets you not overthink things when you want to smell good.
Very interesting and pleasant, a mysterious citrus. I don’t understand the criticism it has received. The problem is, I suppose, that it’s by Frederic Malle.
