Descripción

When the Rain Stops by Maison Martin Margiela is an aromatic aquatic fragrance for women. Launched in 2021, the nose behind this composition is Fanny Bal. The top notes reveal fresh greens, bergamot and pink pepper; the heart unfolds aquatic notes, rain accords, Turkish rose and jasmine; while the base anchors the creation with pine, moss and patchouli.

  • Beautiful wet wood. It’s one of the house’s most characterful scents after By the Fireplace. It has enough body to last, and although it’s aquatic, what lingers is a constant, beautiful woody note. It suggests the smell of books, having coffee beside a dark wooden bookshop on a rainy day. It has a very cosy wet spot that fits perfectly with the pine and moss; all the notes work and you can tell. Just as Bubble Bath fades into oblivion, this aromatic snapshot (the house’s concept) from Maison Margiela stays fixed in memory without blurring like other formulas.

I’m personally fascinated by it and bought it blind: it’s cool, fresh, and has great depth. If you don’t like strong floral aromas, it’s not for you; it comes across as a sweet, spiced, almost soapy rose, basically Turkish rose as it should be, quite sparkling. It reminds me of seeing my mum in a strong perfume in the comfort of my warm home while it’s raining outside and that aquatic, cool scent is perceived. It’s very elegant and makes that exquisite distinction. Be careful with pH, as on certain people it can turn quite sweet. I recommend testing it on a blotter first.

I am absolutely fascinated by this and bought it blind: it’s cool, fresh, and has great depth. If you don’t enjoy strong florals, it’s not for you; it smells of sweet, spiced, almost soapy rose—basically Turkish rose as it should be, quite sparkling. It reminds me of seeing my mum in a strong perfume at home while it’s warm inside and raining outside, with that aquatic, cool touch. It’s elegant and makes a exquisite distinction. Be careful with pH, as on some people it can become very sweet. I recommend testing it on a blotter first.

  • I tried it with a discovery set and it’s a particular fragrance, but the Turkish rose note is too much for me.

  • This is a absolute gem. The rose is wonderful and on my skin it becomes very sweet. I’m fascinated by that rain sensation, as if it were enveloping everything. The jasmine with the rose, and then that earthy note appears; perhaps it’s just suggestion, but it evokes wet earth after the rain, leaves and flowers… It’s original yet familiar. I find it feminine, very pleasant, and it gives me a fantastic sense of wellbeing.

  • This is a gem. The rose is wonderful and on my skin it becomes very sweet. I’m fascinated by that rain sensation, as if it envelops everything. The jasmine with the rose and over time, that earthy point comes out; perhaps it’s suggestion, but it evokes wet earth after a rain, leaves and flowers… It’s original yet familiar, I find it feminine, very pleasant, giving me a fantastic sense of well-being.

  • What a brilliant scent. It puts me in a good mood. Soft, delicate and perfect for daytime wear, all year round. The opening is green and citrusy, followed by the rose with that watery note that feels very refined. On my skin, I detect more rose than jasmine. Very clean and delicate. The base is also soft. A lovely balance and evolution. It leaves a fresh sensation that dries down to a warm, humid feel. Lasting power is excellent. It smells like home after the rain. A great name. I bought it blind based on the name, colour and notes. I adore it. One of my favourites for daily wear. Although it’s feminine, it doesn’t take anything away from a man.

  • What a lovely scent. It puts me in a good mood. Soft, delicate and perfect for the day, any time of year. Green and citrus top notes, then the rose with that watery touch that stays very fine. On my skin, I notice more the rose than the jasmine. It smells very clean and delicate. The base is also soft. Nice balance and evolution. It gives a sense of freshness that turns into mild humidity as it dries. Very good longevity. Smells like home after a rain. Good name. I bought it blind for the name, the colour and the notes. I adore it. One of my favourites for everyday wear. Although it’s feminine, it doesn’t clash on a man at all.

  • To me, it’s very macho and smells like pachinko. I was looking for something more aquatic, like petrichor, but it’s too earthy. It doesn’t work for me or my partner.

To me, it’s very masculine and smells excessively of patchouli. I expected a more aquatic petrichor scent, but it’s overly earthy. I don’t like it at all, neither for myself nor for my partner.

I can finally review it… where do I start? I smelled it in the shop and loved the concept; it reminded me of Ireland. I thought it would be great for everyday wear and that I’d use it a lot, so I bought the 100ml version that same day. For two weeks I wore it daily: at first 3 or 4 sprays, then 7 or 8 because I thought it would fade quickly. Big mistake! I got stuck. I felt like I was drowning and my throat filled with that scent, I think it’s the patchouli. After a month, I hated it. It was a shame because I bought it with enthusiasm and they even made a personalised label for me, but I couldn’t stand it. I only used 1/8 of the bottle. I gave it to my mother and she adored it; she wore it all the time and in the same time only the bottom of the bottle remained. Visualise how much is applied: it’s huge. It’s not for everyone, it has a lot of personality and you should make sure it suits you before buying.

I can finally review this perfume… Where do I start? I smelled it in the shop and loved the concept: it reminded me of my stay in Ireland (or that’s what I wanted to believe). I really liked it and thought it would be great for daily wear, so I imagined using it a lot and needed a large quantity (big mistake). I bought the 100ml version that very day 😱😱😱😱. After two weeks of daily use: at first 3/4 sprays, then I thought it had stopped projecting and I went up to 7/8 (another big mistake). IMMEDIATELY I WAS OVERWHELMED. When I applied it, I felt like I was suffocating and my throat was filling with that scent (I think it’s the patchouli, but I’m not an expert yet). After a month, I hated it. I felt bad because I bought it with enthusiasm and they even made a personalised label, but I couldn’t stand it. I only used 1/8 of the bottle. I gave it to my mother and she loved it; she wore it all the time. Using it the way I did… on her it lasted only the bottom!!!😂😂😂 To show you how much she projects. She’s a woman who adores being smelled from afar wherever she goes, and at least in my case, I feel the trail is ENORMOUS (perhaps due to the dislike). I wouldn’t say ‘When the rain stops’ is for everyone; it has ENORMOUS personality and you should make sure it suits you before buying.

  • It delivers what it promises: it evokes the outdoors after a rain and stepping out into the sun, with hyper-realistic earthy, floral and aquatic notes. It’s intimate, pleasant and unisex, although it’s not something I would personally wear.

  • IllumiFragance

It smells just like Jeanne Arp’s Acqua in Provence, but it lasts less and leaves the roses stuck to the skin without moving; it’s not bad, but it loses that rain sensation that the Acqua has.

  • I was looking for something that sounded like its name, and it wasn’t the first I tried: a Hermès, another niche, another with petrichor but saying nothing. Then, in a perfumery, I spotted the Maison Martin Margiela, including When the Rain Stops. On blotting paper, I sensed something watery, but it didn’t convince me until I tried it on my arm on a hot, humid day. Hours later, back at the hotel, zing! It smells like rain, R A I N. I pressed my nose against it and thought: ‘There it is, finally’. It’s unisex, elegant, distinctive and high quality, ideal as your signature scent.
