Gerard Anthony

Gerard Anthony is a renowned perfumer with more than 50 years of experience in the fragrance industry. Born in 1944, he did not come from a family of perfumers. However, at the age of 14, while working in Grasse during the summer, he discovered his passion for perfume. The scent of jasmine mingling in the morning air captivated him, and he knew he wanted to create fragrances. At 17, Gerard took on the role of laboratory technician at Lautier, where he learned about raw materials and how they could be used in perfumery. He called these raw materials his “friends” and “allies” for his compositions. In 1966, he discovered the iconic fragrance l'Eau Sauvage, which inspired him to start creating his own fragrances. Gerard went on to work for Dragoco, where he gained experience in formulation, and then moved to Paris to further refine his craft. In 1974, he received the Young Perfumer award granted by the Société Technique des Parfumeurs, recognising his talent and dedication to the industry. He then joined Naarden, where he created Azzaro pour Homme in 1978, which remains a classic in men’s perfumery to this day. Later, Gerard worked for more than 20 years at Firmenich, where he created many successful fragrances, including XS pour Homme by Paco Rabanne (1993), and built a solid professional relationship with Jean-Paul Guerlain. Today, Gerard Anthony is part of the creative team at Jean Niel, where he continues to share his experience and passion for perfumery. He has worked with a wide range of brands, including Alain Delon, Balenciaga, Hugo Boss, Lalique, Paco Rabanne and Sonia Rykiel, among others. His contributions to the world of fragrances have been significant and have made him a respected figure in the industry.
