Nejla Barbir
Born in Tunisia, Nejla Barbir moved to France in 1980 to pursue higher education. She obtained her Doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Paris V, Faculty of Pharmacy of the Observatoire, before attending the prestigious ISIPCA in Versailles to study perfumery. Nejla graduated in 1988.
Nejla Barbir’s career in perfumery began in 1987 when she joined Flora Synth as a perfumer. She worked under the guidance of renowned perfumers such as Jean Louis Sieuzac and Dominique Ropion. Flora Synth was later acquired by Harman & Reimer, which then became Symrise, where she served as a senior perfumer until 1999. During this period, she also collaborated with Jean Louis Sieuzac as an independent consultant, providing olfactive services to selected industry perfume brands, including Givenchy.
Nejla has created fine fragrances for well-known brands such as Christian Dior, Estée Lauder and Kiton throughout her career. She has also worked on modernising accords for Hermès and other niche fragrance companies. In 2003, Nejla founded her own company, PARFUMANIA, which produces perfume compounds using the latest robotic technology and the highest industrial standards, while preserving the creativity of senior perfumers.
Nejla’s love of cultural interactions and her experiences living in countries such as Spain, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia and the Gulf area have shaped her unique approach to fragrance creation. She believes that communication between people and the world of spirituality is connected with aromas, which inspire individuals daily and even in worship. As a woman in the industry, Nejla’s understanding of refinement and seduction has played a crucial role in her success.
Among her most famous creations are Dior Dune, Faberlic Pour Toujours, Dior Dune Esprit de Parfum, Dorin Un Air de Damas Rose and Dorin Un Air de Paris Fruity. Nejla’s work with Christian Dior, notably the award-winning perfume Dunes, has been fundamental to her success and professional growth.
