Egypt by EIGHT & BOB

Egypt is a great success for fresh days: it starts with a potent, earthy alcohol before unleashing a clean, soapy lavender reminiscent of Versace’s Blue Jeans. It then blends with cardamom and plenty of nutmeg, evoking Dolce & Gabbana’s The One. The base is a velvety spiced leather that invites sniffing, with a sweet milky touch that makes it addictive. Lasts around six hours with moderate projection. Elegant yet casual, it has earned me good compliments. Easily an 8/10.

Exotic-sounding name but a Western scent, inspired by classic 20th-century style, adult and very masculine, with a drier-down that is sweeter and more enveloping than the opening. Although the brand is niche, I don’t think it truly is, given its high price for what it offers in fragrance. Sillage, projection, and longevity are more than adequate. As always, always, always, try it and let it dry on your skin before buying.

Sublime. I walked into a perfumerie looking for a barbershop scent and they showed me Sartorial, Antico Caruso, this Egypt, and others. I liked them all for that style, but I tested Sartorial and Egypt on skin. Egypt has a curious opening, but its dry-down and the spicy touch within the classic captivated me. At 50-60 minutes, notes with a fascinating freshness appear, perhaps the cardamom. Then it becomes creamy and woody. Good performance, ideal for any occasion with an interesting development.

A very beautiful composition that blends the classic and known with that unique base touch from this house. It is very woody, with lavender and patchouli, giving the sensation of an ambered Fougère like Fougère. Upon drying, after an hour, nutmeg, cardamom, sandalwood, and a touch of suede emerge, very balanced. A charming, deep, and creamy aroma that reminds me of pipe tobacco. Mature and easy to enjoy for those with experience. Leaning masculine, perhaps not for summer. Moderate sillage, almost 12 hours longevity, with bursts of cardamom, leather, and lavender. No excuses not to wear it. Of my purchases this year, the second I like most. For dressing elegantly, not for the gym or buying bread. Alcurnia is fine and deserves to be dignified. Scent 9.5/10, Sillage 8.5/10, Projection 9/10, Longevity 9/10.

What a wonderful perfume. Its opening is quite masculine and classic, fougere-style, before drying down into a suede-like amber scent that is truly enchanting. While it is not a complex composition, I do find it original and pleasant to wear. It has good performance and is quite versatile, though I wouldn’t wear it in summer or in overly casual situations.

Eight&Bob sells a signature story with a lot of invented novel and little credibility. They say Egypt was created by Albert Fouquet in 1935 for a friend named Ahmed. Anyway, it is a spiced woody. The batch is not fresh except for the lavender, and the cardamom and nutmeg are noticeable, anticipating the main woody notes. The sandalwood is sweet and creamy; I even notice cedar. All combined with a patchouli that has a sour, faded nuance, due to poor quality (a point against). The whole feels not very special and could resemble other insignificant fragrances (another point against). The packaging is fine and the price very expensive; they charge like a niche for a designer-quality fragrance (big point against). Rating: 3.
