Definitely, I am fascinated by masculine fragrances with lavender and cedar. It could seem like another typical caramelised gourmand scent, but NO: this Roberto Cavalli Uomo has a citrus and deep touch that makes it stand out, although it is not a great revelation.

This was the typical perfume I used to wear at El Corte Inglés. I liked the bottle and it gave me good feelings. Today, a friend who sells perfumes told me Roberto Cavalli Uomo was 44.10€ for 100ml, so I bought it. Upon applying it, it gives the sensation of having heard it before; it reminds me of Paco Rabanne Black XS, but that is a personal impression. What stands out is that rich, sweet nuance and an interesting base that recalls leather, which I like. Above all, its longevity. It is floral, with light oriental notes and leather nuances. Something linear but as a whole: it has longevity, is timeless, rich in nuances and a pleasure to wear. A well-done job with excellent value for money.

  • Exquisite! I opened it like a child with a new toy and fell in love at first sight. I thought it smelled like Bvlgari Man In Black, but upon testing it, it wasn’t; perhaps only a distant memory deceived me. It is a tranquil and sophisticated scent, with citrus notes, milk caramel with rum, and hints of tobacco, mint, and leather (even though the official pyramid doesn’t list them, maybe my nose is burnt out!). I would wear it at night in winter or autumn, but also on those crisp spring evenings. For me, it is very sensual, ideal for dates. The price-to-quality ratio is excellent; I recommend it.

  • Roberto Cavalli, the Italian designer born in Cavriglia (Tuscany) in 1940. At three years old, he witnessed the execution of his father by the Nazis, an event that marked his life. His engraved black bottle is as beautiful as the fragrance: dark, smoky, mysterious, enveloping, warm and gourmand woody. It is curious: at first, it barely makes a presence, seeming to carry nothing. But by the hour, when others fade, Cavalli Uomo unfolds its wings with parsimony and elegance. Very much in the gothic, romantic, nocturnal line. Funeral violets over a sleeping body, with uncorrupted beauty. That violet accord (black) with spiced saffron links with lavender honey, suitable for a funeral feast. A fruity note evokes ripe black cherries for the deceased’s crown. It wraps in a smoky woody tone: incense cedar, black onyx-like patchouli, quality blond tobacco and tonka bean sweetness with avettivered cocoa reminiscences. The curious thing is the intensity after the first few hours. A distinguished, elegant, classy fragrance. It is perceived but not intrusive, sophisticated and restrained. Women can wear it perfectly; thirty years ago it was considered more feminine. Ideal for young addicts to sweet woods without the shamelessness of the hyper-sweet. Highly recommended price-quality-performance ratio.

  • Roberto Cavalli Uomo is a man sitting on a sofa, with an ashtray and a half-full glass of whisky. He has divided his letters into two piles: those he wrote but never sent, and those written to him that never arrived. He watches the afternoon fall as shadows colour the last golden hues of the sun. He thinks of old friends, women kissed, and things that made him happy, while realising life is about losing until nothing remains. It is a dark, very dark, introspective, openly masculine and decadent fragrance. It steps away from the current trend of gourmand woods to present funeral violets over soft, sweet, golden, herbaceous, almost bitter tobacco. In the heart of it, nineteenth-century wooden furniture where poems were once written. Affordable, it delivers what its dark, sturdy bottle promises. It joins the club of vampiric scents alongside Narciso Rodríguez Him, Encre Noire and Lapidus Black Extreme. Moderate-to-high performance, ready to wrap the day like a silk nightgown. Sublime.

  • Just received. I’d describe it as a blend of Ted Lapidus Black Extreme and Moschino Toy Boy, but softer. Violet, old woods and papyrus, an exclusive mix. It has a feminine touch. A 7.5/10.

  • Refinement, delicacy, a great scent that always plays second fiddle: it is not sparkling but very elegant. It is worth every penny; in fact, I believe it has a very low price for the quality it exudes. A very pleasant blind buy.

  • Roberto Cavalli Uomo: deep, dark, and sensual in its own way, with a sweet, floral, and woody touch. It has a sublime, powdery floral facet that performs superbly, carrying a serious stamp that enchants and awakens curiosity. It is a complete, rounded, and magnificent work in the Italian style. A hidden gem, definitely first-class. Scent: 10/10. Projection: maximum 3 hours, then it sits close to the skin. Longevity: 6 hours on skin, 8 on clothes. A masterpiece, recommended.

Designer perfumery sometimes surprises you when least expected. An elegant black bottle in the window display suddenly captures your attention. Cavalli has the potential to stand out, and this Uomo is proof. Love at first sniff with a sweet prelude. I sense soft honey and a floral note soaked in lavender, wonderful. The base of cedar and patchouli is a caress thanks to the tonka. It is sweet and floral, but in a masculine way, with a notable violet that makes it evening wear, though it also works by day. The floral transforms into constant sweetness. The only downside is longevity: 5 hours on skin, not bad for the level, but a little extra spray on clothes helps. Very beautiful, sensual, elegant and underrated. Perfect for autumn or winter nights with sweet company.

  • “So great a love of flowers and glory of creating honey” Virgil wrote about bees. If the poet were here, he would be amazed by Roberto Cavalli Uomo: a fragrance with a unique honey that takes you to dark, gothic yet sweet places. Ideal for a cold night when the sun has set. The woods are noble, hidden beneath a floral opening that accompanies without overwhelming, lulls without sleeping. It reminds me of Lanvin Avant Garde; it would be its ‘dark’ sibling. A nocturnal bird with its own song. Give it a try, it is an absolute beauty.

  • “So great a love of flowers and the glory of generating honey” Virgil wrote. If he were among us, he would be astonished by the beauty of Roberto Cavalli Uomo, with a unique honey that takes you to dark, gothic, and sweet places. Without a doubt, it is for the night, when the low temperatures are felt. The woods are noble, hidden under a floral opening that accompanies without overwhelming. I find a certain resemblance to Lanvin Avant Garde; it would be its ‘dark’ sibling. A nocturnal bird with its own song. Do not fail to try it, it is of absolute beauty.

  • After a night of drinking, this synthetic scent evaporates in seconds, leaving only lavender and wood. Forget real violets like those in Dior Fahrenheit; here the chemistry is brutally artificial. Furthermore, it lasts just enough: 2-3 hours on skin (if you’re generous) and a bit longer on clothes if you get close. Would I buy it again? No. Would I recommend it blindly? Not either. They probably reformulated it, and this is merely the shadow of what it once was. What a pity.

In this case, the ‘reminds me of’ section serves little purpose; the Dior Parfums, their flankers, and dupes are missing. It’s true it also resembles Ted Lapidus’s Poker Face quite a lot, though the latter is a bit weaker. It’s sweet and floral, but in a masculine way; that touch of flowers and lavender gives it freshness. After a while, the woody honey becomes noticeable. A pleasant surprise upon discovery.

  • I must talk about this fragrance; they say it’s the Dracula one and I understand the comparison: it’s cold and dark. The first time I smelled it, it took me to an alleyway on a frozen winter night, with a leather jacket; the violet predominates, but the dry-down leaves a very rich honey.

  • Hello, honestly it’s a scent that resists being ordinary; it doesn’t fall into the typical sweet-honey trap, it has that trail that envelops you and you can’t resist trying it, it’s for occasions 🍂

  • The point of putting ‘this fragrance reminds me of…’ is to suggest a distinct alternative, yet people list flankers or perfumes from the same line. It’s obvious it will resemble the flankers.

  • What makes this fragrance not one of the most used is that it doesn’t come from a house like Dior or Chanel. I quite like the violet and honey; to me it seems floral but with a woody touch. Definitely for autumn/winter. I like it and the value for money is among the best. 8.5/10

  • I just picked up a 2016 batch and this is a bomb; time may have worked against it, but the formula lasted from midnight last night until I woke up… what a pity about the reformulations. Rich, elegant, and sweet without being cloying, perfect for going out at night or using formally by moderating the sprays.

  • Barberia2005

A fragrance distinct from everything I own, with personality and distinction, very elegant and masculine. Longevity is decent, around 6-7 hours. I highly recommend it if you want to steer clear of mass-market scents. Scent note: 8.5, performance: 8, value for money: 9.5. Would repurchase: 👍

  • In the stereotype of the sexy, elegant man with a penetrating, hypnotic gaze that steals looks through posture and masculinity, this is his fragrance. Every woman who smells it closes her eyes, smiles, and imagines this Italian sharing his lust. Saffron, honey, and violets work magic so she still feels him when she wakes up. A work of art; sensuality and sexuality in a bottle.

  • A scent worthy of its own dynasty, with such a peculiar blend it brushes against niche status. Its vibe is vampiric, yet modern wave: think Blade or a modern Dracula running shady deals, hidden behind the facade of an electronic club in Prague, Bratislava, or Budapest. The saffron and violet make it sombre, but the honey modernises it with mischievous charm. Performance is top-tier, yet the opening is so brutal I only wear it at night, in the cold, with a black shirt and the top button undone; if he were Dracula, he’d wear a profane gold chain. The price-quality-originality ratio is impeccable; impossible not to recommend.
