Poker Face by Ted Lapidus

What a relief, a very correct and pleasant fragrance. I bought it blind, as a good colonial perfume addict, and upon testing it on my wrist with just two sprays, I realised I didn’t do it justice. Obviously, I was already wearing another scent that day, but the next day I wore it to the full and wow, it is much better than that first impression with just two miserable sprays. It is not that old school or vintage style that Lapidus usually has, but totally modern, mainstream and easy to wear. The opening feels a bit strange for a brief moment, about 10-15 seconds, it was not unpleasant but uncomfortable: synthetic and chaotic. But that passes quickly. Then the iris appears, very pleasant and the protagonist, accompanied by lavender and cardamom-pepper which give it cleanliness with a spicy touch. It continues like this until the patchouli, tonka bean and cedar enter, giving it a softly sweetened woody touch where it stays until it finishes. It lasts about 5-6 hours with intimate projection. To say it reminds one of Dior Homme is anecdotal, only because it carries iris. The resemblance to LNDL I do not know, I have never tried it, but it has its own path. I would not wear it if it is more than 20-22 degrees due to the powdery iris, and I do not know if it will perform below 15 because it is very intimate and could get lost. In summary: more than correct, very pleasant, usable in the office in cool weather, and for 16€ the 100ml is spot on.

Exquisite, elegant and serene fragrance. For cold climates to feel all its power. For the price it is worth a thousand times the penny. +30 in my opinion.

Review of Pokerface by Ted Lapidus. I was pleasantly surprised by its scent and commercial value, very accessible. To the point: it opens with well-marked lavender and citrus to give way to the pepper and cardamoms, its star notes, giving it a spicy profile. Although Fragantica does not put it in the composition, undoubtedly it carries vanilla to temper those spices before giving way to cedar and tonka bean. The projection is half an hour before fading slowly and the duration about five hours. It is for all occasions and all four seasons, day and night. In summary: a spicy and vanilla fragrance for everything, quite economical in my country (Argentina) and that will receive compliments from both the female and male audience. Greetings.

I bought it blind in the 50ml version in case I did not like it, because they recommended it as an inspiration for LNDH by YSL. The truth is my favourite is L’homme by YSL, but until now I have not found any clone. I think I like it only to myself hehe. Some time ago I bought Al Nashama Caprice which they sold as a clone of LNDH Bleu Electrique, the truth is I thought it was horrible: it did not last at all and had a disgusting synthetic smell. I ended up selling it on the marketplace and the person who bought it from me also resold it hehe. As for Poker Face, unlike Al Nashama, I loved it. I felt very good quality and a scent very similar to LNDH. I think if you have the desire to have the YSL one and are not such a fanatic, it is a better option to have Poker Face. Today I test it on an outing to see what happens. PD: If anyone knows an economical fragrance similar to L’homme by YSL, please comment!

Very pleasant to wear on autumn and winter days, like today. An elegant scent at half price is not to be despised these days, perhaps it will go with me for the next few years. A soft sweetness and talc-like to spray on a nice shirt and go out into the streets.

Gentlemen, take note: this doesn’t even come close to the sole of La Nuit from 2009, let alone the current Eau de Parfum. It is a decent fragrance reminiscent of La Nuit, but it is light years away in quality. Poker Face is sweeter, powdery, and flat; conversely, the YSL has a slow dry-down, an effervescent and deep opening that lasts longer. Furthermore, the cap and atomiser on the YSL are top-notch, whereas here they are a disaster. It’s not bad if you can’t afford the Nuit, but the quality differences are glaring.

I remember La Nuit de l’homme from 2020; I thought it was one of the most charming and seductive, but it lasted very little. A few days ago I picked up Poker Face by Ted Lapidus without great hopes, and it has truly captivated me. It is a scent very close to La Nuit, with a notable iris base and a sweeter touch. It is almost identical, a safe purchase. Sometimes I think everyone should own one, but I don’t want it to become too common. Haha… here in my country it’s not a typical scent; everyone wears sweet perfumes from PR or JPG, so Poker Face makes you stand out. It is exquisite and sensual; unlike La Nuit, it lasts! I use it for university and it lasts all day. It doesn’t project much, but that’s the point: it is a scent that invites you to get closer. I wouldn’t say the projection is as poor as La Nuit’s; it is perfectly balanced. The best thing apart from the quality is the price: I paid $18 for 100ml with shipping, which is insane. When I showed it to my brother, he thought it was $70 and couldn’t believe the receipt. It smells much more expensive than it is. The value for money is madness; it wins handily against Zara perfumes that feel synthetic and last a breath. I went to a perfumerie and tried La Nuit again; Poker Face is the perfect clone; in one spot they are indistinguishable. Do not doubt this beauty. You have the right not to like it, but objectively it is not bad; it is quite the opposite. It has the three ‘B’s’, it makes you stand out, and it doesn’t hurt to atomise. If it runs out, getting another is almost a gift.

The French house Ted Lapidus has ‘modernised’ its catalogue with this men’s fragrance, Poker Face, alongside TL Intenso and the Stories saga. It is a mix of 30% YSL La Nuit de L’homme (2009), 30% of the Dior Homme saga (that powdery scent with a strong iris/orris note, reminiscent of feminine makeup), and 10% of the discontinued CH Men Privé, with a very slight touch of softened and sweetened leather, especially in the opening. The best: its price, between 25 and 35 euros, and its good accessibility in Spain (Prieto perfumeries, chipies section). The bottle looks cool and the atomiser works well. The worst: its longevity is extremely short; on my skin, a maximum of 2 hours (my bottle is from 2022; I don’t know if it has been reformulated, but I am flabbergasted by what they say it lasts 7-8 hours… or I have been cheated or everyone smokes oregano). Sillage of 30 minutes max, never passing 30cm. By 3 hours, goodbye Pedrín, as if you had left without being perfumed. Originality of scent, zero. Nowadays it is more overused than the handrail on Gran Vía metro.

A fragrance that, although it costs little, has a wonderful scent. In the first hour, black pepper feels quite sharp but not annoying, then it passes to a touch of makeup pencil. It is simple for cold seasons or fresh days. It has moments with those bursts of La Nuit. Duration of those occasional fragrances that leave a good impression; it is great for a night date, suitable for open or closed spaces without being bothersome. Longevity: 8, Sillage: 8, Projection: 7, Price: 10. Without a doubt, a beautiful, pleasant fragrance that gives a sense of closeness.

It is an excellent fragrance. Upon application, it brought back memories of Ted Lapidus Black Soul; then, an hour later, that sensation diminishes and Black Soul feels heavier. Clearly, it is very similar to YSL La Nuit at a very low cost. Longevity and sillage are excellent. Its scent in cold or semi-cold seasons is very pleasant. Ideal for night dates and cold days/nights. I recommend it highly; it is an elegant scent that does not go unnoticed.

Here is indeed a good fragrance at an egg price (although nowadays the truth is eggs are not cheap, haha). A scent that resembles YSL La Nuit, but with more flaws in its construction. Regarding performance, it goes quite well for 7 to 8 hours. In summary, 100% recommended. Rating: 7.5/10.

Excellent fragrance; once dried down, it is impossible to distinguish it from YSL La Nuit. The price-to-quality ratio is overwhelming; it is a must-buy.

What a great fragrance! 👌 I’ll update later as it just arrived and I’m getting used to it 😁. Update: the opening is unusual for my nose; it doesn’t smell bad, I like it, but it’s atypical. I deduce it’s the violet leaves. The dry-down is the best part, as described below. It’s an easy yet rich scent. The weak point is performance; it doesn’t stand out in cool temperatures. If you catch it at a good price, it’s a very good option. I haven’t tried the one people say it resembles, but YSL scents don’t stand out for potency these days either. Finally, I don’t know what’s wrong with the bottle; it’s a classic straight-line format. The only downside is the cap, which doesn’t hold and risks falling if you grip it there. For me, a ugly bottle could be Toy Boy 😂

Another excellent job by Ted Lapidus. A delicate and elegant combination of iris, citrus, and wood, mainly, with notable longevity and medium-short projection. In my opinion, usable in any season, including summer.

I just bought this for my son, and it smells divine. The opening is generic but evolves in minutes into something elegant and exquisite; I felt a urge to wrap my arm around my son’s neck for a long time, haha. The best part is the price: it offers more than it costs and gives the sensation of belonging to prestigious houses. Longevity and trail are excellent. I loved the combination of notes; they are in perfect harmony. I give it 8.5/10, highly recommended.
