Launched in 1983, don’t expect an overwhelming trail; Missoni Uomo has just the right dose to avoid saturating you or those around you. The opening is green and spicy: bergamot fades quickly behind an explosion of basil, galbanum and juniper. Within seconds, a blend of cinnamon, cloves and especially coriander takes centre stage. It’s not for sensitive noses or over-application, as it smells of sweat if dosed poorly. In the mid-stage, a ‘dirty’ jasmine leads with a floral edge alongside carnation and a delicate rose. The woods are present, but the vetiver stands out the most. Then a dry, bitter leather emerges from the start, accompanied by labdanum, oakmoss, musk and tonka, which linger at the end with a comforting trail of musk, Olibanum incense and patchouli. It’s a spicy chypre ideal if you enjoy scents like Cabochard or Aramis. Complex and totally out of fashion, but I absolutely love it.
