  • Tulum is an ‘inspiration’ (let’s call it that 🙂) of the legendary and discontinued Batucada. If you know it, it’s 90% similar, with a more two-dimensional, synthetic scent and a slightly stronger marine note that sometimes smells like a harbour. If you don’t know it, it smells like a Caipirinha-style alcoholic drink, with cane sugar, hints of tiare flower, and a salty accord that gives a little drink effect on the beach, all over an amber base without patchouli for better longevity. It’s a very sugary amber that reminds you of the cola rum left in the glass. Very fun, cheerful, and a great launch if it weren’t an ‘inspiration’. But well, since the other one can’t be obtained…

This perfume is the latest launch (2025) from Simone Andreoli’s Tropical Escapes collection. It’s green at first, somewhat resinous and woody, not coniferous but from palms and exotic plants. Anyone who has been in a tropical jungle will recognise it (it evokes Mexico, Colombia, and Madagascar); it’s quite well achieved. Deep down, I sense indefinite fruity notes and light marine notes that come and go with the evolution. I don’t think it’s a summer scent at all; sometimes you shouldn’t take fragrances and their history too literally. It reminds me of classic fougère green perfumes like Loewe Essence or L’Artisan Fou d’Absinthe, but in a modern, carefree, and original version. If you want an autumn that doesn’t evoke the darkness of a European forest, but rather an ‘escape’ to the density of a tropical jungle, this is your perfume. Scent: 10/10 Sillage: 7/10 Longevity: 8/10

  • Just received it, and honestly, it’s an 85-90% clone of L’Artisan’s Batucada, but with an absolutely brutal performance. On my skin, the original lasted a short time and projected very little, whereas this Tulum, with just three sprays, is dancing like a demon after two hours. That said, the 35 degrees in Madrid are surely helping. I don’t know how long it will last, but if it reaches six hours with this projection (I hope it drops, as it can be overwhelming), it’s more than enough. I picked it up for €97; I spent two bottles of Batucada last summer and it lasted four or five hours, but this one looks so much stronger. It’s slightly less fresh and more deep. Batucada was for all day, whereas this gives off a summery night vibe… late evening if you’re in a rush. I’m not sure if I’ll wear it during the day at the beach with all that heat and humidity, but for going out to a party this summer at night, certainly yes.
