Ada Masotti founded La Perla in Bologna in 1954 as a small corsetry workshop. The company later expanded its business to lingerie, nightwear and swimwear, and built an international presence around Italian manufacturing. Its trajectory remains linked to the work of the workshops and the evolution of women's underwear.
La Perla entered perfumery in 1986 with a fragrance bearing the same name as the house. In 2020 the company announced that La Perla Beauty would take over the management of perfumes, cosmetics and skincare after the Revlon licence ended. Current availability depends on each market.
