  • Olfactory Memories

Smoke, toasted wood, gunpowder, blood, burnt flesh, marine notes, amber, incense, dark and dirty. A head-to-toe experience that transports you to a 19th-century naval battle. I’m not sure when to wear it outside my home or as an actor in a war play.

  • Smoke, brandy and the screams of men burning. The brand tries to evoke the Battle of Trafalgar without more. Being a house with a portentous imagination and indifferent to the majority, the material is extreme: don’t wear it to your wedding or you’ll be excommunicated. Beaufort is on the edge of the straitjacket, and that is what makes them wonderful. The opening is harsh, as if a cannon has fired and set the ship’s railing alight. The smoke comes in industrial quantities, like pulling your hand from an extinguished chimney among embers. I smell salt and sea, but the heart is brandy and that is the note that imposes itself. As it dries, the smoke disappears and leaves brandy with woods, delicious. Each decides if it’s worth enduring the start to get there. It is winter, nocturnal and ruffian; not for family dinners. It is less sexual than others from the brand, close to Coeur de Noir regarding the smokiness. My favourites remain Rake and Ruin and Fathom V. Supernatural performance. They will lock them up, but I hope they release more before that.

An interesting olfactory experience: very smoky, salty, and aggressive. It’s a curious stylistic exercise but absolutely unusable. Extremely invasive and suffocating, it generates rejection in almost everyone. With bestial performance, it’s hard to wear; with a sample, you’ll surely have more than enough. I have 5 ml and plenty to spare.

  • I’m a fan of Beaufort, but Tonnerre is too much, even for me. The gunpowder note dominates everything and lasts the entire life of the perfume, being invasive and overwhelming. Upon applying it, someone instinctively turned their head away as I approached. It’s the only fragrance from the brand to which I give a resounding NO.

  • The opening has left me breathless, a brutal harshness that turns people away. It is literal thunder, like a scorched forest with industrial-level smoke. My wife smelled it and asked with repulsion what it was, saying it smells of sulphur. Although it evokes the Battle of Trafalgar with gunpowder and spices, everything is overshadowed by that smoke and dry woods; there is nothing marine or citrus. It is overwhelming, suitable only for open spaces and with very careful sprays. Olfactorily interesting, but nothing pleasant. It resembles Coeur de Noir due to the smokiness, but this is much less bearable. Abstain if buying blind.
