Arbat: A Green, Mossy Throwback to the 1970s

Арбат (Arbat) from Nueva Zarya (The New Dawn) is an aromatic woody fragrance for men, first released in the 1970s.

Citrus and herbs lead the way, before violet leaf, woods and a moss-led base take over.

Mandarin, bergamot, lavender and sage shape the opening. It feels clean, herbal and lightly citrus, typical of the aromatic fougère mood of the era.

Pepper, patchouli and violet leaves form the heart. There is a dry touch of spice, balanced by a green, faintly earthy character rather than sweetness.

Sandalwood, oakmoss, amber and musk make up the dry-down. The finish is cosier and more powdery, with moss and soft wood giving it staying power.

The accords move from citrus, fresh spice and lavender towards woods, moss and warm spice. It favours tidy, everyday wear over opulence.

With an average of 3.66 out of 5 across 50 ratings, it remains one for vintage lovers and students of historic perfumery.

It will appeal to those who favour herbal lavender scents, green violet leaf and oakmoss-sandalwood bases, and to collectors of 1970s fragrances.

Arbat is best viewed as a faithful slice of its decade: crisp, green and mossy, offering a clear glimpse of Nueva Zarya’s classic style.
