Descripción

Black Prestigium by Mancera is a fragrance from the Leather family, designed for men and women. Launched in 2015, this composition was created by perfumer Pierre Montale. In its opening, the fragrance unfolds a top note of iris root, patchouli and bergamot; the heart reveals a harmony of rose, oud wood, woody notes and violet; while the base settles on leather, amber and white musk.

This is powerful, nothing more. The opening is a spectacle: don’t bring your nose too close or you’ll lose your sense of smell for a while; it smells incredible. I’m not sure if it’s the lily root note. At first, it leans slightly feminine. Then, as it dries down, it becomes masculine again and (thank God) softer; I think that’s when everyone can enjoy it. I was surprised; it has personality… Although the opening seems very beastly to me and I only like it in its dry-down.

  • It was my birthday gift to my partner… they loved it at first, but later confessed they didn’t like how it smelled on them, finding it too strong, so now I wear it. From day one, it smells on me and I can’t stop comparing it to Dior Homme (even the Intense) because of that note people say is iris (talc-like). To have such a strong note… one might think it’s a bomb, but no… it’s a fragrance with great performance yet easy to handle. Of course! With just two sprays, you’re set for the whole day.

  • Putting a drop on my arm made me smile… what a surprise! It seemed like the perfect clone of Dior Homme Parfum, but the excitement didn’t last long; the iris faded, leaving just the oud and rose, delicious but no longer a clone. It leans closer to Montale’s Black Aoud. That strong rose with the Mancera and Montale oud. By the end, at four hours, a talc-like note emerges, like baby powder over a rose base, leaving a clean, freshly showered scent. I loved it! The performance is another story: it projects well even the next day for the first six hours. Very satisfied.

  • As a novice with iris since 2021 (having tried Givenchy Gentleman, Valentino Uomo, and Dior Homme), I tested this sample of Mancera Black Prestigium. On my skin, it doesn’t resemble Dior Homme at all. It smells far too feminine. I will try it again to see if my opinion changes. I understand I can say this because I own almost every flanker of Dior Homme: the 2005 EDT, the 2007 Cologne, and Francis Demachy’s EDT 2011, Intense 2011, and Parfum 2014.

  • I get dizzy when people say it smells like Dior Homme when it bears no resemblance, although I admit it does recall Jo Malone Velvet Rose Oud. Setting that aside, it’s an elegant beast with optimal longevity and projection for its price, rivalling much more expensive niche houses. One of the best in my collection, totally unisex. The rose-oud combo is hard to wear without the right outfit; that’s when it truly shines. Spectacular. There are many niche houses nowadays that are dreadful, with sky-high prices and declining quality.

Just to say that everyone smells different. If it smells like Dior Homme to some, great. This is a place to share opinions, not to belittle those that aren’t mine.

  • Powerful and daring scent. At first, it reminds me of Dior Homme Parfum with that blend of rose, leather, and iris, but the leather fades quickly, leaving a sweet, powdery floral base. It smells very much like Tom Ford Noir EdP, though this one is less soapy and features more iris. It projects incredibly: the sillage is moderate but noticeable from afar. Its real strength lies in longevity; perfect for autumn and winter, whereas in summer, too many sprays can be overwhelming. Ideal for elegant evenings. In short, I love it, but don’t buy it blindly just for that daring floral touch.
