Very potent, a rose with character and a trail that leaves no one indifferent.
Montale is famous for its oriental side and I love those fragrances, so logically I should adore their style. However, with the exception of the jewel Black Aoud, it’s not my case. Their perfumes last and project immensely, but the scents seem disconnected to me and sometimes vulgar. I’m not saying I don’t respect the brand’s fans; everyone has their tastes. Red Aoud smells of milk chocolate (not dark) and dust, a gourmand touch that fits in the kitchen. It leans feminine though it is unisex. Its fixation is indestructible and its density makes it ideal only for autumn, winter, and special occasions. Try it first; it has a very particular aroma.
For less money, you get a Ferrari of oud that smells like the gods. They share the same components and exact longevity; the cumin gives it a strange touch, but generally, they are twins.
‘Give me an oud with cacao, please.’ Oud usually sounds a bit clinical or medicinal, and in most fragrances, it’s noticeable. I feel it in Red Aoud too, but other notes give it a creamier, more pleasant relief. With Black Aoud, although it dries down better, the top notes smell straight of hospital and are unpleasant. Here, that doesn’t happen. Red Aoud is a sensory pleasure, a game of contrasts. I agree with oscarsh86: you can taste the cacao and it reminds me of Santal Majuscule, which is interesting. It is totally unisex. The longevity and projection are impressive. I tried it in summer and it didn’t fit the heat; better for autumn, winter, and at night due to the presence it emanates.
They say it’s better than Black Aoud, is that true? I’m already thinking of ordering Sweet Oriental Dreams, looking forward to your comments.
