Blåkulla by Dark Tales: A Smoky Leather Fragrance for Men and Women

Dark Tales has introduced Blåkulla, a new unisex scent launching in 2026. It was composed by perfumer Arina P. Franzén, as part of the leather olfactory family.

The name carries the scent of Nordic folklore, perfectly on-brand for the house. The fragrance moves from bright floral and airy opening notes through a saline, resinous heart, down to a leathery, woody base.

The opening is curiously bright for such a dark concept: floral notes, smoke, fragonia, and airy accords. It creates a push-pull between freshness and shadow that makes you pay attention.

In the middle, sea salt meets resins and conifers. It feels mineral and green at once, like a coastal forest after a storm. This maritime, woody heart gives the leather plenty of breathing room.

The foundation holds leather, Amberwood, resins, amyris wood, musk, and cade oil. The cade oil brings pronounced smokiness, while musk and amyris deliver a soft, balsamic and faintly animalic finish.

Accords include floral, woody, smoky, leather, aromatic, amber, animalic, musky, fresh spicy, and balsamic. The result is a scent that shifts and develops over hours on the skin.

Early reviews show a mean score of 3 out of 5, suggesting Blåkulla is not a mass-appeal release. It’s an adventurous formula, and it refuses to be ignored.

This will appeal to leather devotees looking for something untamed, to lovers of smoky and resinous compositions, and to anyone who enjoys exploring the darker side of perfumery.

Blåkulla is a fascinating new chapter for Dark Tales. The blend of leather, smoke, and sea salt makes for an unconventional experience, ideal for those who want their fragrance to tell a story.
