Descripción

Bravo Monsieur by El Ganso is an aromatic woody fragrance for men. Launched in 2019, this composition was created by perfumer Dorothée Piot. Its top notes of cardamom, violet, incense and grapefruit give way to a heart of Egyptian papyrus, iris, lavender and geranium, closing with a base of sandalwood, cashmere wood, musk and vanilla.

El Ganso Bravo M. Batch 2023. Good value for money. Smells of wood, cardamom, lavender, iris, a slightly powdery aroma, elegant, serious, masculine. Good longevity and medium trail. It reminds me of Nuit de l’Homme but much more woody. A perfume away from current trends, and that is why I like it more. For me, it is a notably good perfume for the price. Recommended for elegant, classic boys with style. If you want to wear this perfume with tracksuit bottoms and a cap, then no. Bravo to Bravo M. and very well done by El Ganso for releasing this perfume.

  • I have only smelled the perfume in the box, and the strong anise scent I detect turns me off, as Pedro884m also highlighted. It also gives me a sensation of rhubarb. I will continue to try to see if I eventually come to appreciate it.

  • I recently acquired several samples, and among them was a free sample of this perfume I did not know. The only thing I can say is that, in my opinion, it is the worst perfume I have ever smelled; I barely smelled it and hated it. It has a disgusting smell; I don’t know if it is the balsamic note, but it has an unpleasant combination, it seems like insect poison.

Perhaps Bravo Monsieur is not for everyone. It is not obsequious, nor is it terribly bad. Personally, I like it. What should be for everyone, however, is the use of spelling, syntax, and grammar. Everyone’s opinion is respectable and it is great to know we have different tastes, but nothing takes away more credibility from an opinion than the murder of spelling, syntax, and grammar when writing. Perfection is not demanded, but a minimum of care is desirable. Bravo Monsieur may be repulsive to some, but I assure you that not knowing how to write what you mean is unpleasant for many. Note, I do not say this with the intention of annoying, as everyone is entitled to their own taste, but no perfume will make up for that lack.

  • Hello everyone, this is my first review. I hope to help those with doubts. I am fed up with the sweet scents they try to impose on us who like men’s perfumes. This essence smells woody, a bit citrusy, then turns powdery with a light touch of vanilla, a tiny bit sweet but very little. I was looking for something different, and this cologne has it. Masculine, autumn-winter, for a mature man with character and formality. And it has a very good price. P.S. After several days, in the dry-down, it reminds me of Dior’s Fahrenheit.

  • I have a partial bottle from 2021 and I want a backup, but there is only 2023 available. Does anyone know if it was reformulated or if the liquid changed?

It is a woody-powdery perfume. It is NOT for everyone. I bought it blind and it was a mistake. It is a fragrance with little versatility, mature and complex for a young person. I must highlight that it has good performance, projection, and longevity. If you like sandalwood, this is for you.

Interesting. It reminds me a lot of the classic Brummel (allowing for differences in price and performance). Both are warm woody/spiced scents with floral notes. In Brummel, they are white flowers; in Bravo Monsieur, they seem to be violets, though I’d say it also contains carnation or something similar, giving it that very marked floral-masculine punch (perhaps too much). It also has a powdery and woody touch (sandalwood). It’s not for informal wear. I don’t see it as suitable for very young people or for summer. I’d say it works well in the 1950s as much as it does today. It is a timeless masculinity. Good performance for the price, although it’s not cheap. Be careful not to overapply; it can be invasive and heady.

El Ganso has caught me off guard with this perfume. I don’t even know what Santal 33 smells like, but I do know what Guerlain’s L’Homme Idéal Intense smells to me, which is my favourite. Well, they aren’t identical, but it has a very similar vibe and smells fantastic. Recommended.

  • I’m not sure if there’s a difference between batches, but when I tested it in Madrid, it smelled of sharp smoke. The opening was so overpowering that I had to go straight to the bathroom to wash my face (I was in the shopping centre).

  • It’s like Santal 33 but less dry and slightly sweeter. Honestly, I think this one will be more popular.

  • I was blown away because I didn’t expect this from a designer brand; it breaks away from the norm. Elegance, class and distinction at a bargain price. The opening is sharp and might be disconcerting, but after 30 minutes, the magic begins. It has a spectacular evolution, becoming sweeter as it dries down, which is wonderful. If you prefer ultra-sweet, commercial-style perfumes, this isn’t for you.

  • A classic fragrance where the woody notes take centre stage. The opening is fresh and spring-like, featuring incense and violet. Over time, it develops into a complex base. It’s a distinctive scent that stands out from the crowd. Ideal for spring; perhaps too heavy for summer in the heat. If you’re looking for something different, this is an option. Don’t buy blindly.

  • This isn’t for young people. It arrived today, and upon applying it to my skin, it seemed like a peculiar scent that didn’t quite convince me, though it wasn’t unpleasant. I gave it to my younger sister, and she literally said it smelled bad and she hated it. Now I’ve sprayed it on my clothes, and it smells very bad. It reminds me of the wax from my private maths tutor’s candle in the bookshop where I used to take lessons when I was small. A horrible memory because I detested those lessons and the smell. It smells old, like a church. I don’t understand why it changes so much on skin versus fabric, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re under 50.

  • I bought it because of its resemblance to Santal 33 and was pleasantly surprised. It has been a triumph in terms of price, longevity and sillage (it lasts a very long time on my skin). I consider it a super special and versatile perfume. The iris note is a spectacle. I will buy another bottle without hesitation. Very elegant and sophisticated.

  • I applied it at 9 and could still smell it at 3, yet it lasted until evening close to the skin until I showered. My T-shirt still smells good two days later. The longevity leaves nothing to complain about. The projection isn’t beastly; at first, you won’t believe it, you need to pay attention. Olfactory fatigue, nothing is perfect. It delivers, without complaint. It suits everything: elegant, sporty, casual. The best part is that it smells of wet earth, very rich. Fifteen dollars for 125 ml, brilliant. It’s similar to Santal 33, which I wouldn’t buy because it’s overrated and because many feel embarrassed when the bill arrives. Cheers.

  • Between dill, Terre d’Hermès and Fahrenheit, I arrived at Brummel. Options: 1) The most complex perfume in history. 2) People with noses only for spectacles. It smells of sandalwood, iris, violet and papyrus. Pleasant atmosphere, a little rough for my nose, but worth it. After years, I’ve noticed women love it (perhaps due to the insecticide-like scent). The world of perfume is subjective; those who speak just to speak should keep quiet (Plato).

Perfumes can travel through time, but this one took me straight back to my childhood pharmacy: white coat, syringe, and the psychopathic look on the nurse’s face. What an intense memory!

  • CarlitoSalsa

I’m 37 and just starting with this, I think it’s a fantastic fragrance. I bought it blind and initially regretted it, I didn’t like it, but over the days I started to get used to it. To me it smells like wet wood, mud, earth. Once I was going to a party and waited outside; two young girls of 20 passed and exclaimed how good it smells. They loved it.

  • Wow, it seems some need to check if their noses work or if they only use them for glasses. For a perfume to smell like ‘pharmacy’ or ‘floor cleaner’ says more about who smells it than the aroma itself. Perhaps it’s time to visit an ENT specialist or try to appreciate something beyond the typical industrial air freshener.

  • I loved the comment by ‘campeones22’, it smells exactly like that. Like a place you enter, whether a pharmacy or hospital, where you’re soaked in a mix of air freshener, disinfectant and floor cleaner. It’s an aroma that for me is not very pleasant, synthetic and without perceiving declared notes, just a potpourri. For half this price you have hundreds of better options.

  • It’s the most hyped fragrance from the brand but it didn’t convince me; it seems like a fragrance for an older gentleman. If you’re not over 40 and don’t want to smell like a censer, it’s unlikely you’ll like it; it’s quite cloying.

  • dan_Guardian

Unwearable fragrance and unusable if you’re under 65. Smells like 80s talcum and violet, terrible.

  • Finally I’ve been able to smell Santal 33 and the truth is this is an identical clone.

  • Alexrojas2908

Woody, mature fragrance with a noticeable trail. If you catch it at a good price, I recommend it.

  • Gian Arévalo

If you don’t like this, it’s impossible for you to like Santal 33. As a dupe, it satisfies. I feel the excess of Iso E Super causes rejection in people.

  • Fantastic fragrance. I don’t compare it with the original because I don’t have the fortune of trying it. It comes out citrusy for a while, then becomes linear, but smells very good. Very woody, with iris and violet giving it a powdery touch; the incense makes it slightly formal. You can smell the cardamomo. It’s versatile, from casual upwards (not sport), from autumn to spring. Lasting power is beastly, over 10 hours if used moderately, moderate projection for 2 hours. I use it a lot for working in the cold; it doesn’t bother and lasts all day. Great price for the experience.

  • Humbert_1980

I don’t know the Le Labo Santal 33, but I swear the compliments with this are brutal. I’m addicted to fragrances and my wife literally told me: ‘Just wear it because I love it and you don’t need to smell different’. Friends also ask what I’m wearing. Very rich to my experience and super versatile. Highly recommended.

  • Facun772

Fantastic perfume, super masculine, giving an image of a professional and tidy man. Very characteristic scent and not mass-produced. The longevity is spectacular; it doesn’t seem like an EDT as it behaves like a high concentration, prioritising longevity over the trail. It’s noticeable for at least 6 hours and close to the skin it lasts over 8. It can be smelled on clothes the next day without issue. For the price, it’s a 10.

  • There are perfumes that only make sense with time. Not because they’re difficult, but because it takes years to wear them naturally. If you already own them, you know what I mean. If you realised before the age of 33 (yes, it smells very much like Santal 33), congratulations. If not, no worries; check out Bravo Monsieur in a couple of years and we’ll talk. This fragrance doesn’t need fireworks. It has the sobriety of clean sandalwood, the natural elegance of vetiver, and a woody base that doesn’t tire, overwhelm, or cloy. It’s discreet, but not shy. It accompanies, adds, and makes you smell good without announcing itself. The quality is well above the price. It’s surprising how well-constructed it is. Bravo Monsieur has something that can’t be faked: coherence. From the bottle to the dry-down, everything works with a clear idea. One of the best purchases if you’re looking for elegance, well-thought-out simplicity, and a scent that speaks more of you than the brand.

  • I think it’s a good perfume with a distinct twist. I’ve never heard of Santal 33 and I’m not sure if it’s similar. But I notice a bitter smell that repels me as it dries, and from experience, it usually doesn’t suit people either.

  • Totally agree with the previous one, there’s nothing more to add. It smells fresh, clean, and is well-made. The opening can be strong, but as it dries on the skin, the scent is wonderful. It reminds me of the Lalique Hommage EDT, though this one is sweeter and softer, whereas Bravo is more herbal. Both are fantastic fragrances.

  • IgnacioF.Villegas

Penetrating, exotic, and distinct wood. It’s a mature fragrance, nothing youthful. It’s not made to please or be taken lightly; it’s something you either love or hate, with no middle ground. I’d avoid it for daily wear or parties. It’s serious, impactful, and unforgettable. I love it because I enjoy woods and the unusual. To my nose, the cardamom, woods, and musk stand out; the rest goes unnoticed against that dark forest. It leaves a subtle creamy sweetness of sandalwood and vanilla, but very faint. It lasts just enough; don’t overapply or you’ll saturate. It’s not to everyone’s taste, but it’s unforgettable and different. It brings back memories of a trip where someone gifted it to me; smelling it transports me. It’s unique, marking memories in a way retail scents don’t. Very good price and it breaks the mould of what the notes say; it’s woody but intoxicating. Not for everyone, nor for superficially smelling good.

  • Billy Ramita

I bought it blind and it was a mistake. Not because it’s bad, which it isn’t, but because one note gives me a severe headache. I think it’s the blend of incense and grapefruit. It’s a pity because I insisted on smelling it hoping it would improve, but there’s no point. It’s interesting but I won’t enjoy it.

  • Luis León Perez

I just tried it and I didn’t like it at all. I had high expectations and it was a disappointment. It smells of wet wood and leaves without evolving into anything darker. I’ll have to try it elsewhere because based on the reviews, I don’t think that’s its true scent; testers have smelled different to me before.

  • Fresh and characterful thanks to the sandalwood. As it dries, I notice similarities with Boss Bottled Night due to the violet and woody notes, but they are distinct fragrances. It’s super versatile for any weather or occasion. Performance and dry-down are good; in fact, I prefer it after some time has passed. Excellent value for money; one of the best I own. Warning: the sandalwood dominates and some people won’t like it. Try it before buying, or make sure you enjoy sandalwood if you’re blind buying.

  • dan_Guardian

I gave it a second chance after all this time, and it’s still a failure. It smells like grandma; I repeat what I said before: it’s unforgivable. Notes of violet with wet wood, just like old-school perfumes from decades ago. And mind you, at my age I’m still decades away from being elderly, but that doesn’t justify the scent.
