What a find! Like the others from Grès, it opens with bergamot, pear, and a mysterious green touch, perhaps galbanum. The flowers emerge quickly, along with that charming, elegant, non-intrusive patchouli. It always carries a smoky hint and a buttery leather that ties everything together. I don’t detect the praline, but I do sense its sweetness. It smells like a middle-aged woman, well-dressed and smoking; I don’t know why that association sticks. Ideal for spring and summer evenings, it falls short in winter. Moderate trail, lasting 6-7 hours. Versatile for shopping or work, no one will find fault with it. Feminine, kind, with a touch of rebellion, as if Miss Dior were hiding to smoke. I love it. 9/10
I bought it in infernal summer and at first the leather kicked me: sharp, heavy, unpleasant. But within minutes it softened too much and vanished in 15… Second attempt in cold winter and fresh spring: it’s another beast! It becomes sweet, delicate, fine, and elegant. A delightful, non-intrusive treat with incredible longevity, projection, and trail. I’ll be buying another when this one runs out.
I’ve been stabbed in the heart by Cabochard Cherie. It’s beautiful, but the chemistry with my skin is disastrous: literally makes me dizzy and gives me nausea. A mistake to buy it knowing it contains praline, my hated note. I expected a sweetened chypre, but everything yields to a milky, cloying, overwhelming praline. At first it’s celestial, with ethereal greenery like Chanel 19 or Silences, and citrus freshness of bergamot, pear, and basil with floral and earthy narcissus. The ecstasy is brief; the praline kidnaps everything and blends with the leather, the only note that stands out but without improving anything. The rest is an ordeal that lasts hours and smells until Vladivostok. My skin traps what I hate and lets escape what I adore. Many will love it; it’s a hybrid between a green chypre and La Vie est Belle or Flowerbomb, but don’t buy it blindly. For me, it’s a Frankenstein monster: a beautiful body sewn to a grotesque head that only growls. It pains me not to have loved it.
