Descripción
California Réverie by Van Cleef & Arpels is a floral fragrance for women. Launched in 2014, this composition was created by perfumer Antoine Maisondieu. Its olfactive structure unfolds with top notes of neroli and mandarin, giving way to a floral heart composed of sambac jasmine, frangipani, and plumeria. The trail settles on a warm and enveloping base of beeswax and vanilla.

Perfect for celebrating the end of winter. Slightly indolic, but only for the first few minutes until it dries down. Then it becomes a floral fragrance, rather calm, almost natural, with moderate lily of the valley: they don’t dominate as in Diorissimo, but they are quite noticeable. Spring should last longer, because California Reverie loses beauty and strength in both heat and cold.
Ideal for celebrating the end of winter! It has an indolic touch at first that disappears quickly, leaving a calm, almost natural flower with moderate lily of the valley. Spring should last longer because this perfume loses strength in the heat or the cold.
California Reverie is a modern and balanced floral that seduces me despite its indolic opening, something that would have repelled me before. After that phase, the neroli and frangipani temper the flower, and finally the vanilla with beeswax gives it that current sweet rest. It’s a wonderful scent, elegant and very wearable, although its sillage is ridiculously minimal for a price of 90-100 euros; Van Cleef has dropped the ball with this collection.
California Reverie is an absolute floral that captivates those who love this range; it’s modern and balanced. The opening is slightly indolic; previously, I would have recoiled like a snail into its shell, but now I’m tired of lush flowers and that indolic side seduces me. I wouldn’t rule out trying again a Carolina Herrera from 1988 that I didn’t like for years; if I saw a vintage, I’d grab it for sure. I think after that soft-indolic opening, a neroli and frangipani appear, keeping the delicious floral tone but taming, tempering, and softening it. In the final middle phase, vanilla and beeswax sweeten it, giving it that typical floral rest, that base and support that has always worked well. What sweet base comes first in a perfume nowadays? Usually, it’s the trend, but California is not like that; it’s a sober, serious floral. It’s a normal perfume for everyday use, but not really nowadays. Now comes the rough part. Unfortunately, this perfume has a minimal, infinitesimal, ridiculous, almost laughable sillage. Normally, everything with jasmine on my skin drips, but this California is weak, very weak. If it were a 5-euro body mist, I might accept it, but it’s around 90-100 euros for 75 ml. Are we mad? It’s a wonderful scent for me, a modern and wearable floral with notable elegance and very attractive components; it moves away from sweetness to rest and makes it impeccable; anyone I’ve shown it to has liked it. Van Cleef is an interesting house, but with the Collection Extraordinaires they’ve dropped the ball. One knows one doesn’t have to last ten hours and smell like a skunk, but it must have a minimum, and it doesn’t. The Collection Extraordinaires are good, but many of us feel they fall short for the exorbitant price.
Floral but nothing simple: an exquisite and fresh jasmine, even herbal at the beginning. I don’t feel the beeswax or honey, and I love that. It’s delicious!
Floral but nothing simple. It’s an exquisite and fresh jasmine, with a hint of herbality at first. I don’t detect the beeswax or honey, and I love that even more. It’s delicious.
I’ve been wearing this for several days in this crazy spring with brutal weather changes. The opening is a bright, cheerful floral-citrus explosion, featuring a sparkling, slightly astringent neroli that gradually gains sweetness before becoming creamy and dense. Once it settles, the rules change: plumeria, vanilla, tangerine skin, and above all, beeswax take the show. It lasts about eight hours close to the skin before blending seamlessly with the epidermis. Although I’ve never been to California, the notes make me understand the name. I don’t know much about the brand, but this deserves further investigation. It’s elegant (without being rigid), very feminine and jovial, ideal for spring but also summer. The transition from citrus to the creamy ylang and beeswax is harmonious and pleasantly surprised me; a combination I don’t recall smelling before. I usually don’t like this type of perfume, but this one is precious and deserves a place in my wardrobe. Pleasant: 8/10 Interesting: 8/10 Versatile: 7/10 Original: 9/10
I’ve tried it for several days in this changing spring and the opening is always a fresh, cheerful floral-citrus with a sparkling neroli that later becomes creamy. Once it settles, plumeria, vanilla, and beeswax take the lead. It smells like California; it’s elegant, feminine, and versatile for spring or summer. The transition from citrus to creaminess is harmonious and surprising. Pleasant and interesting: 8/10, original: 9/10.
