Avon’s Charisma perfume is absolutely aphrodisiacal. It has never gone unnoticed by any man who has been by my side. It’s sexy, exquisite, and warm. I recommend it highly. Personally, I’ve been using it for over 40 years! A truly special fragrance.
This perfume was very popular among middle-aged women when I was a child. To me, it’s delicious, noticeable, and has an elegant touch without being pretentious. I’ve never bought it, as it’s my grandmother’s classic; she’s worn it for over 20 years, and I feel it’s become her personal fragrance. Recommended for casual days, when you want to be scented as part of your overall look without going over the top.
This is the perfume that has accompanied me all my life. I used to wear it with my mother, and it’s full of beautiful memories. What a pity they no longer make it. Avon should reissue the vintage scents.
I’ve read on other blogs that this perfume is very similar to Coco Chanel. I know Charisma well—it’s a delight—but I’m not familiar with Coco. Could anyone confirm if they really are alike? I can’t find Charisma anymore; it seems they’ve discontinued it. What a shame. A truly great perfume. Thank you!
This perfume is a classic. I believe if it were reissued in Argentina, it would be an absolute sales success. It branded an entire generation and today getting hold of it is an impossible mission. Definitely a must-have in any collection. I never managed to find a similar one…
I got hold of a Coco Chanel and it really resembles Avon’s Charisma, but I say this one is even better. It has a note I cannot specify, which Coco lacks, making it totally ‘unique’, sexy and aphrodisiac from every angle. What a pity Avon no longer manufactures this delight I have worn for over 40 years. It is a shame when companies prioritise modern tastes over preserving masterpieces of perfumery.
While tidying up my older sister’s wardrobe, I found this discontinued gem. What I have is a crystal edition bottle, frosted, with amber-yellow liquid and no atomiser – quite strange how it looks! – and 120 ml. The opening is strong, aldehydic, with citrus accents of bergamot and a ripe peach that balances it. Then the flowers emerge, with carnation as the protagonist and others like lily, narcissus and ylang-ylang. This middle phase is perhaps the one I find hardest to enjoy. The base, however, is divine: sandalwood, amber and vanilla blend for a sweet, honeyed scent. It is floral, clean, a bit strong, with presence, bittersweet and soapy. In its base, it reminds me of great perfumes by Chanel or Givenchy, presumably due to the aldehydes. It has nothing to envy from new fragrances and I would love to try other legends from this house. Its longevity and trail are magnificent. Years have passed but it shows no sign of being off. For cold weather and special occasions, I don’t see it as a daily wear. The bottle is beautiful; I recall it was one of the most beautiful and original of its time. It brings me great nostalgia, as I had a relative who was an Avon distributor, and every visit brought novelties: fragrances, soaps, pencils, gels, foams… Every corner had figurines. I remember seeing and smelling those perfumed soaps in the drawers shaped like fans or fruit, an Eiffel Tower, crystal dogs, cream perfumes… what a longing! Some smelled wonderful and I wish they would bring them back. Now with the crisis, I see ads encouraging people to become distributors. I haven’t tried new products, but it is never too late to start, and for now, I want to learn to decipher this and keep it with great care…
While organising my older sister’s wardrobe, I found this discontinued treasure. The one I have is a frosted glass bottle with amber-yellow liquid and no spray nozzle—quite strange! It’s 120 ml. It is still sold in Mexico in the catalogues; the truth is it is a classic, my aunties’ favourite, a must for collectors, and yes, it is very similar to Coco Chanel.
A classic and unique fragrance, fresh at first and becoming spiced and green with time.
A CLASSIC
The name suggests an Avon classic, and indeed it was super aphrodisiac; you could tell… but the current version is different. It retains part of the base but has changed in other ways. The original was charming; it was a sensation in the 70s and 80s, at least in Guatemala and Central America. Then it disappeared, returned to the market but totally different. In my country it is still sold; Avon sells it in Mexico among the low-price fragrances. I like it, but I don’t love it; however, it works if you carry it in the car in summer and need something nice and casual.
Do not underestimate Avon’s vintage fragrances. Charisma is floral with animalic and balsamic nuances; I don’t see it as green as the website classifies. It has a potent aldehydic opening that yields to a heart of carnation, orange blossom and ylang-ylang. Subtly spiced, it is not an aggressive floral; it is pleasant, highlighting the interplay between the floral aldehyde, the musky amber and the soft civet. The narcissus is also prominent. Very good 🙂
Back in high school, a classmate used it and once shared a bit with me. It smells lovely and lasts a long time, but I initially found the scent a little ‘boring’ – it reminded me of the teacher who wore it.
I first encountered it through that scented sticker in the catalogue and fell in love at first sniff. I have three bottles saved (in case Avon stops selling it in Mexico); I can’t imagine my life without wearing it. It’s a wonder.
I met it through the perfumed sticker on a catalogue; it was love at first sniff. I have three bottles of my own (just in case Avon stops selling it in Mexico); I can’t imagine my life without smelling it. It’s a wonder to me!
