  Here’s a Caribbean oriental with everything that implies. An original scent with long-lasting power and that tropical storm character that picks its friends and allies wisely. Fabulous for hot nights where you’ll dance all night, sweating sensuality that, when merging with the sea breeze, will make you own the olfactive space around you. Pity it can only be obtained by going to Cuba.

  Black Coral (1984) is by Suchel Camacho S.A, a partnership between Cuba and Spain, created by Cuban perfumers Ricardo García and Rafael Molina. It’s an aldehydic floral with musky notes, good projection and trail. A well-balanced accord of jasmine and roses wrapped in a voluptuous carnation stands out, over an amber-musky base with animalised civet notes blending with sandalwood. This accord recalls Lanvin’s Arpège. It has great personality and huge longevity; I recommend wearing it moderately, especially at night.

  Bought it on a trip to Cuba and it smells like a Cuban woman: a stunning female who makes you feel like you’re leading a revolution with your fist raised, shouting ‘Patria o muerte’. Ufff. Smells like the Caribbean: fruits, beach and son, but also jungle, tobacco and rum. I loved it the moment I owned it.
