Gifted to me from Cuba, where it remains a winter classic despite the tropical climate. It’s a heavy, woody, smoky fragrance with lots of leather, fougère-style, though the promised tobacco is barely noticeable. It smells like 80s synthetics, older than Brummel or Aramis; nothing modern, it makes you look like a ‘viejuno’ and is a confusing mix of scents. Projection lasts an hour, then 5-6 hours on skin. The issue is that when it projects, it’s invasive, causes olfactory fatigue, and gives me a headache. I know the intention was good, but it smells like another decade when perfumery has advanced so much.
They gave it to me from Cuba… It’s very famous there. It’s curious that it’s a winter fragrance for a tropical country: it’s heavy, woody, the leather is noticeable, and quite smoky, in a fougère style. The tobacco it claims to carry is barely detectable. To me, it reminds me of old 80s perfumes like Brummel or Aramis, but more synthetic; it smells old-fashioned, nothing modern or suitable for anyone under 40. It projects for an hour, then lasts about 5-6 hours on the skin. The problem is that while it projects, it’s very invasive and causes olfactory fatigue; it gives me a headache. I know they gave it to me with good intentions, but I think the Cubans are settling for too little; this smells like perfumes from another decade, and perfumery has evolved a great deal since then.

One of the finest male fragrances I have ever smelled. Tobacco and Pinar guayabita (wild and rough) dominate, with a touch of sweet coffee in a dash. A man wearing this is intoxicating and irresistible.
Vegueros is a masculine gem from the little-known Cuban perfumery. It belongs to the fougère-tobacco family and has been sold in Cuba, Angola, and the Dominican Republic for over 15 years. Its creator is Jorge Dávila Sánchez, a master friend of mine (strange that Suchel-Camacho doesn’t declare him). It’s super sensual, fresh, with sparkling citrus, very masculine, and inspired by the tobacco vegas of Vuelta Abajo. An authentic seal of Cuban identity and an honourable work that has gone down in history.
Cuba, the cradle of the finest tobacco, takes the aroma of Vuelta Abajo habanos and launches two masterpieces: Montecristo (1998) and Vegueros (1999). Tobacco is its greatest olfactory success. The Suchel house, founded in 1977, carries over 200 perfumes in its catalogue. Vegueros is a 1999 fougère with a 2010 flanker. The opening is explosive and alcoholic with muted citrus, not luminous or acidic, giving an aromatic sensation. It drops to skin level in under a minute; the citrus lasts seconds before sweet, warm, camphorated notes arrive, strong but not cloying, that last a lifetime. The development is linear. The tobacco doesn’t smell of dry cigar but of synthetic green leaf. Lasts 4-6 hours on skin and projects for an hour. Ideal for fresh afternoons or evenings, perhaps too strong for heat; informal use. Very good option for the price (around $8 in Cuba).
One of the best fragrances in the world; it should be famous globally. Nothing to envy from those selling millions. Abysmal projection for an entire room, super attractive, sexy, with personality and excellent longevity. Notes of tobacco, citrus, fruity, woods, and leather. Worth buying blind, never disappoints. Brilliant, mysterious, sensual, and intoxicating. It would only lack a touch of pineapple to rival Creed Aventus.
