Decimo de Gritti: Upon testing its notes (bergamot, blackcurrant, birch and ambergris), I thought it would be another Aventus and I was spot on, but beware: it’s not a cheap clone or an outright copy. My personal take: it’s not as smoky as the original Aventus, nor as fresh as its Cologne version, and far less synthetic than Club de Nuit Intense. It sounds very much like Orion, but without that irritating birch that always gets in the way in Tiziana Terenzi’s version. In short, it’s like a Frankenstein assembled from those four fragrances, with a known DNA, but with a clear audience that will enjoy it. I detect the citrus opening, but the truth is it doesn’t shine much as patchouli quickly takes control, claims the fragrance and practically drowns out the other notes. Forget the vanilla and flowers: they feel very in the background, covered by the woody and leather facets that impose their character. As for quality? Yes, it’s clear it’s well made. Versatility? Total; this can be worn in any season without issue. And something I can’t fail to mention: the bottle is gorgeous, very display-worthy, very collectible. Does it deliver? Of course, because this type of aroma has that proven “magnet effect” time and again. It won’t surprise anyone with something new, but it delivers on its promises and is quite potent in projection and trail.
