I own the original Devotion and tried the Intense version mainly to check the differences. To my surprise, it seems quite, if not almost, identical to the original version; the shop assistant agreed with me that they haven’t changed much. Rich as its predecessor, the hazelnut is barely felt in the opening, disappears, and in the dry-down, we have the normal Devotion. I thought this would project better and feel more potent, at least, but no… To be the ‘Intense’ version, D&G fell quite short with this launch, in my opinion.
Half a review after comparing the original side by side with the Intense: The opening of this Intense is muuuuch superior and delicious compared to the original, thanks to the hazelnut note, which is so rich. Just that hazelnut opening made me hesitate between taking the Intense or the original. However, later in the dry-down, the original becomes much better; it sits wonderfully on the skin, whereas the Intense seems to fade and becomes more subtle, where the ‘Intense’ part remains only in the name. Now, after 15 hours on blotting paper, the Intense still feels completely present (without the hazelnut note, which only cheers up the opening), while the original is several tones softer, almost imperceptible. Now I’m undecided: joy in the opening and longevity with the Intense, or better aroma throughout the fragrance’s life despite its shorter duration with the original.
I tried it in the perfumerie, and the truth is, it smells like Devotion to me, just less sweet. My boyfriend was under the impression that it was also less intense (what a joke, haha), and he gave it a 7.2. I’d say I like it a bit more than Devotion, but it’s not quite my cup of tea.
I have both. The original Devotion lasts longer than the Intense, which offers only a faint hazelnut aroma that unfortunately vanishes in a breath, giving way to a very skin-close woody scent. A thousand times the original. I was given the other one, but I wouldn’t replace the original with it.
I own the Devotion, so I had high expectations for trying this perfume; however, I was totally disappointed. It’s almost a copy of the normal version; I can’t find anything ‘Intense’ about it. I feel very little difference between the two. I have a decant of the Intense, so I compared them, and the normal one has greater longevity, at least on my skin.
I own both. I prefer the Intense version because the citrus isn’t as obvious, and on my skin, the hazelnut note holds up.
The classic Devotion doesn’t kill me, but this one fascinates me. I need it, and I’m not a fan of citrus, yet here the notes blend so well and so gourmand that they make your mouth water. It smells of lemon and orange with an alcoholic touch, while at the same time evoking freshly baked shortbread cookies bathed in white chocolate.
I bought this perfume for my girlfriend for her birthday; I absolutely love it. It reminds me of chocolate-filled cookies. It’s one of my favourite sweet perfumes for women.
Devotion Intense 🧁. I think it’s one of the most popular perfumes at the moment and it’s one of those you either love or hate. To me, it has a citrus opening, although it’s not declared in the notes, and lasts about 10 minutes; on my skin, it’s quite ethereal. The dry down is the best: hazelnut with bergamot and vanilla. It could be the recipe for a Three Kings Cake. It dries down very vanilla with that sponge cake vibe I love so much. I feel the hazelnut is creamy, sometimes it seems to have coconut in it. It certainly has me smitten and I don’t rule out buying the regular version soon.
Beautiful. Among current perfumes, this is one of the longest-lasting.
Well, if I have to choose between the classic Devotion and this, I’d go for the Intense. The latter is more complex, featuring a pronounced bitter orange note blended with lemon. It fills the room. It’s a perfume for cold weather; it’s a comforting scent that expands around you, creating an alcoholic, sweet, and potent microclimate.
A damn fine, bold, modern and stylish scent, a risky bet by D&G for the mass male market. It smells 100% realistically of espresso coffee, ergo hazelnutty, as if you’d just thrown yourself onto a freshly pulled cut coffee. It doesn’t smell like natural bean or the bitterness of roasted coffee, nor the ultra-sweet cappuccino type like other gourmand fragrances. By the way, the note isn’t listed in its olfactive pyramid. Unfortunately, it lacks much versatility or evolution. If you’re keen on coffee aromas, go for it; if not, beware or you’ll be disappointed. Therefore, I recommend a prior test, especially on skin. Never buy blindly. Ask for a sample at your trusted perfumer and you’ll act with knowledge of cause. Decent performance without exaggerations, around 6 hours. Moderate price for how things are going lately in mass or selective perfumery.
Too cloying.
I truly need to give it a second chance. Without a doubt, it fascinates immensely from the opening to the heart notes, which are wonderful. To me, it’s sweet and elegant, a super-refined vanilla. My only complaint is the longevity and trail; I only felt it for 3 hours. I’ll leave it to macerate for 2 months to see if the notes gain more strength on my skin and I’ll review it again.
I simply love this perfume and I don’t care if others don’t like it. Finally, I’ve found something that fascinates me and is so long-lasting 💖.
Testing perfumes with my mother and sister, I came across this. On the skin, the opening smelled like absolute rubbish, a disaster, like a candle trying to smell like chocolate. Afterwards, as it dried down, the vanilla rose up and the hazelnut moved to accompany, not to be the protagonist. I loved the dry down and now my mother wants it for herself.
I like it more than the normal Devotion, although it still doesn’t fully convince me. It’s too gourmand.
I already liked the original Devotion, but the Intense version has won me over. In the opening, it feels more distinct from the original; while the original smells of lemon, here you notice more orange, although they dry down similarly. Yes, the Intense is stronger and sweeter. This version lasts longer on me. I wear it in summer because I’m used to very sweet perfumes, but if the heat overwhelms you, save it for autumn and winter.
I’m going to say something controversial (I think) but it combines muuuy well with Bare Vanilla Candied and Bianco Latte. The opening hazelnut is a bit overwhelming, it gave me a headache, and you can tell the longevity (around 8 hours) but with less intensity. It’s very rich; it smells like chewable glamour, like an expensive dessert, not vanilla ice cream. It’s sweet but that’s not the main thing. The trail is insane for the first two hours and then it becomes almost intimate very quickly. It’s hazelnut with lemon and vanilla, but that lemon is more like sour caramel, nothing citrusy. I’d like it more if the hazelnuts didn’t give me a headache. 9/10.
I tried this today and, being a huge fan of sweet fragrances, I found myself wanting more. In the store, I sprayed a couple of sprays on the back of my hand and, *bam*!, I felt that sweet hit of hazelnut and vanilla with a very interesting citrus base. Marvelled, I looked at the bottle and paid attention to the name. Then I tested the original, which is also a wonder, but on my skin, as the hours passed, I noticed that the Intense version is much more perceptible. Even after washing my hands several times, Devotion Intense was still there, whereas the original was almost imperceptible. I don’t care if it’s labelled for men or women; when I like something, I like it. It’s been noted on my list as a safe purchase as soon as I can. Regards.
My holy grail of perfumery. I received a sample as a gift a few months ago and it’s fantastic. Its scent reminds me of a freshly baked cake made with nut flour. This gives it a very marked woody facet that during the first minutes can feel quite masculine. Despite this, it becomes softer and more delicate in its dry-down. The final scent, as I said, is a lovely, airy cake. It’s not as sweet as many people describe it. I see it exclusively for cold seasons. While the Devotion original for me can work perfectly as a unisex fragrance (perhaps due to the mix of rum and sharp citrus notes), Intense leans absolutely towards the feminine; but let this not limit you if you are a man who enjoys a well-made, round gourmand. I think attitude is key and it can be worn gracefully by anyone who wants to smell like a delicious, expensive, woody, spongy and completely fine dessert. P.S.: Does anyone else find a rather subtle similarity with Tobacco Vanille at a certain point? Devotion Intense is like its younger sister, less dirty and less rocker.
I like it. But I like the original much more. I don’t understand why they would call it ‘intense’ for a perfume that is softer.
I like it very much! I feel it’s a very special perfume; it’s not one to buy blindly; the almond note is very noticeable, but it also has a smell like expensive sunscreen. It’s sweet and gourmand but nothing cloying; it’s a soft, worked sweet, like an almond cake. I only notice the citrus in its opening; afterwards, just almonds and a rich sunscreen scent. Personally, I usually like Dolce&Gabbana perfumes; I consider them elegant and feel they wouldn’t bother another person.
I had promised myself not to buy the D original and so I did. An addictive but somewhat simple fragrance. Well, now I couldn’t resist D Intense. This formulation is deeper, more complex. Warm, sweet and very addictive. This version is more adult; in a middle phase it results in being slightly mysterious and its base is enveloping. The opening phase is the most similar to the D original, but then it evolves into a more personal aroma; it’s not linear like the first perfume. It lasts quite a bit on the skin and sticks to clothes. I love it! I wear it alone or well layered over Dolce Femme. A total exquisite.
DragonReview – Devotion Intense: I always clarify that my opinions are personal (I write about the performance on my skin that day, which may change). My tastes lean more towards citrus and vanilla scents, so I had doubts because I read that it could leave a sour smell later. Opening: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved it; it’s a very realistic sweet lemon, nothing acidic, almost like sugar-coated lemon. I don’t smell the hazelnut at all (which I did expect), but I liked it quite a bit. Dry-down: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A dessert-like vanilla appears, soft and sweet, blending perfectly with the citrus opening, exactly the style I enjoy so much. Base: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ This failed with me; at the end, it left a strange lactonic note, like slightly sour milk, and I no longer felt the nice vanilla. This residue didn’t please me, but it doesn’t take away from its beauty. Sillage: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ With few sprays, it projects well or moderately; it’s pleasant, but after a few hours it drops significantly and stays close to the skin. Longevity: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ It performed well in temperate weather, lasting about 3 to 5 hours with sillage and then another 6 to 8 hours close to the skin. I consider it worked better than expected. My final rating: 4/5. Overall, I loved it because it combines my tastes and I ended up liking it a lot; the only drawback was the end which I didn’t like at all. The truth is, it did surprise me because I thought I wouldn’t like it. If your tastes are citrus with a sweet touch, give it a try. Note: on very hot days, I think it could result in being too intense.
I loved it! I haven’t tried it to 100% yet, but from the first application, Devotion Intense seemed like a spectacular fragrance. It’s a delicious, creamy vanilla of very good quality, with that touch of hazelnut cream and a subtle citrus base (as if it had a bit of orange and lemon zest) that makes it more interesting and not cloying. I find it richer and more balanced than the original version, with a more intense and warm profile. It has an oily base on the skin; I feel that will make it last a very long time. Overall, it feels gourmand, elegant and characterful. Ideal for those who enjoy sweet but refined perfumes. It has that sophisticated and comforting air that makes you smell ‘expensive’, but in a soft and cosy way.
Very gourmand. It basically smells of hazelnuts, sweet. It lasts a long time on my skin with quite some intensity. It’s warm and cosy. It smells to me like a cold winter night in front of a large fireplace.
Very rich and delicate; you can detect the hazelnut at first, a little bit like incense, perhaps due to the roasted hazelnuts. Actually, it’s a very rich perfume, worth having in a collection, delicious. You have to wait for it to develop further, but even now I loved it.
I’m absolutely in love with this perfume. It can be worn all day if used moderately, as it is quite strong. I adore it too much and it’s definitely one of my favourites.
I tested it blind without knowing its notes and only noticed an extremely sweet and sharp orange scent; I had to wash my hand because it seemed too intense and sweet. I’m surprised to read there are nuts because I didn’t perceive them anywhere, and the orange blossom note confirms the sweet and orangey smell. I’d say it smells like those hard small candies that were always in grandma’s house, a resounding no for me.
I like it, but I expected more; I think it’s overrated.
I tested it excitedly for the notes, especially the hazelnut part. At first, I only perceived a sweet citrus opening, quite strong (I liked it), then it settled into a strong smell that seemed repellent; I found it very strange. It reminded me of cat pee 😺. Obviously, it’s a matter of my skin, but it’s worth trying before ordering it.
It’s the most flattering perfume in my collection, and I LOVE the EDP even more. I read reviews saying it smells similar, but I don’t feel that much; I can’t believe it doesn’t declare orange—I SMELL AN ORANGE SO STRONGLY, BEAUTIFUL! I feel this one has more creaminess and sugar, it’s sweeter and gourmand, but it’s not as versatile as the EDP. I love it, but I don’t find it for daily use; it has to be for winter on specific occasions, not for the office. PUT THIS ON AND I FEEL LIKE A SWEET EMPOWERED QUEEN, no doubt about it jajaj ♥! Longevity is a miracle.
At first, I perceive the DNA of the original with the absence of the little lemon. Once dried, it seems like a white latte, which isn’t advisable to wear on hot days. I prefer the lemon 🍋.
It’s a guilty pleasure. I don’t perceive hazelnuts at the start, but rather a quite intense caramelised lemon. Combined with vanilla (very pretty and light), rum, and white flowers, it’s a fragrance that conveys me a lot of joy. I don’t find it sophisticated or excessively sexy, but I love it. It has good longevity and a nice evolution towards a vanilla with rum and orange blossom notes, neither light nor heavy.
It’s a very exquisite perfume; I love its notes.
Love at first sight. It’s everything that’s right, and I trusted that it would be so thanks to the brilliant creator of this fragrance. I adore it. Orange, hazelnuts, and vanilla are all I smell, and I don’t need anything more in Devotion Intense.
Unfortunately, it’s not to my taste.
In a moment of madness, I bought this perfume blind. Considering it’s not cheap, I admit I was anxious until it arrived. It took two attempts to understand it and fall in love. The first spray is strange and unexpected; I’m not used to the hazelnut note and that’s what’s perceived first. Then the orange appears, and the combination is comforting, like walking into grandma’s house while she’s baking. I don’t usually wear gourmand perfumes, but I loved this one. It has something warm and enveloping that surprised me. Now I’m waiting for winter to wear it freely, because in summer it could make people faint 😅. It’s 100% winter.
It came out exquisite, with that almond/nutty touch at first, but it fades in a heartbeat; afterwards, it’s the original Devotion softened with citrus. Very rich; if you like one, you’ll surely like the other. I prefer this because the trail is much sweeter.
