Descripción

Eau de Lierre Eau de Toilette by Diptyque is a green floral fragrance for women. This composition, created by perfumer François Demachy in 2006, unfolds an olfactory pyramid where top notes of water lily and bergamot give way to a heart of sambac jasmine and water lily, settling on a base of oakmoss and patchouli.

Smell of ivy, just like that. Lierre is ivy in French. A fairly realistic aroma of vigorous, rough greenery that, like the plant, climbs up you and won’t let you go.

  • A minimalist perfume that takes you to lush, refreshing forests with ivy and rain-dampened woods. It’s refreshing, unisex, and wearable for the day. The scent is quite linear and moderate, but suits an informal style or wearing it at home after a stressful day. It relaxes and provides comfort. On my skin, the woods stand out, soft, accompanied by greenery. It’s not citrusy; it’s vegetal. It presents a current and excellent aroma for any moment except at night. It’s not seductive or sweet. A forest in a bottle.

  • Green, savoury, and ephemeral. Undeniable quality in the ingredients and blend. Smells green with a heavy floral charge and a very airy feel. It’s a work of art evoking the scent of climbing ivy, enchanting like most creations from this accessible niche house. The problem is the performance: even testing it with caution, it surprisingly underperforms. It projects nothing and stays skin-scent from the very first minute. The longevity isn’t terrible; you can detect it by sniffing your skin several hours later, but it’s hard for others to perceive it, almost a chimera, unless you detect it spontaneously yourself. If you have to become a British bloodhound to appreciate it, then for me, that doesn’t count as longevity. Let everyone decide; I’ve forgiven that flaw in some designer fragrances because I adore the scent, but in a product costing nearly £120, you have to think twice. We forget that perfumes are not just olfactory experiences but image accessories to influence you and be perceived by others. That simply doesn’t happen here, not even as a joke. So simple and sad. If you have a sample, spritz it on your wrist and enjoy the magnificent aroma, but it won’t serve you for much more. It hurts me to criticise this house because I admire them, but writing to guide purchases is a duty to tell the truth. Eau de Lierre is a beautiful car with a great body and engine, but upholstered with glory seats. The detail is that it won’t start. It takes you nowhere, carries no one, holds no luggage, and serves none of the purposes a vehicle should. You just have it in the garage admiring it from time to time. Everyone decide what they deem convenient.

It’s 9:30 AM on a holiday. I pick up my coffee cup and think how rich and unmistakably ‘healing’ the scent of good coffee is. It invades us with a sharp olfactory memory of a morning cup, right? As I drink it on this hot summer day, I wonder how I would describe someone who has never smelled the roasted coffee note. Automatically, I get up, go to my shelf, and give a good sniff to EAU DE LIERRE. Then I ask myself: how do I describe what the hell climbing ivy smells like? According to Diptyque, it would smell very close to this beautiful proposal in its EDT version. As far as I understand, its aroma cannot be extracted and must be created synthetically or recreated with other notes. If I’m not mistaken, the same goes for tulips, but that’s another story! Back to the ivy! Diptyque offers an ozonic, green, very earthy, rough, and fresh scent, very fresh without a single citrus note, where faint woods soaked in wet earth move back and forth. Is it pretty? YES, beautiful. Can I buy it blind? NO, regardless of it being an expensive EDT, for two reasons: 1- It’s an olfactory experience very suitable for these hot days, and you’ll enjoy it if you’re more accustomed to different smells, further from the designer profile (after all, it’s a niche). I say this because I doubt it will earn you compliments, but no one will deny that you don’t smell bad, will it compensate you? For me, yes, particularly. 2- From the start, it does not project; it stays skin-scent (10 cm), so it’s one of those where you can apply generously. You’ll feel it, whoever hugs you will too… but your date in the passenger seat with the window open is out of the question. As I said, Eau de LIERRE or our friend ‘invisible’, kind and mysterious, whom we won’t share freely. Fortunately, I still have hot coffee left in my cup. Cheers! Hyper-realistic, smells like freshly cut grass, as if you’re carrying an entire garden with you. Ideal for summer. Diptyque still has the top herbal scents.
