Look, be careful with the term ‘perfumist’ – that refers to those who create the fragrance, not those who just smell it. And stay away from Jafra; the ingredients and blend are a disaster. For a similar or lower price, you can get proper European or American gems: Halston Z14, Ted Lapidus, Jacques Bogart, Oscar de la Renta, Calvin Klein, even Versace or Moschino. And if you want to spend less, Axe sprays are a thousand times better than anything Jafra offers. Don’t even mention the decent lines from Avon, L’Bel, or Natura.

I love catalogue perfumes; I’m always on the lookout for hidden gems and give them a chance, because nowadays many people think they’re expert perfumers, haha. To cut to the chase: it’s very versatile, ideal for all climates except very cold winters, where the sharp lime can be irritating. Upon opening, that lime is super acidic and stinging, but it passes quickly. The star is the clove, pure and unadulterated, without any softening, which gives it a warm, highly spiced touch. It’s fairly masculine, and if you’re under 20, it can be quite overpowering. The clove lasts about three or four hours, then softens and gives way to the vanilla. Although I won’t say it outright, it smells of musk and amber, which give it stability. It’s a rich fragrance, not for everyone, but perfect for smelling good and having presence without seeking compliments.
