  If you look closely at Gold Regatta, the first thing you notice is red algae, but be warned, it’s more of a marketing gimmick than a note that truly differentiates it. If you’re seeking a single niche, aquatic, and woody fragrance, this might suffice, but if you want something unique that stands out among dozens of aquatic scents, look elsewhere to avoid ending up with an expensive gift that feels impersonal. It’s an EDP with green and woody notes accented by sweet and fruity touches, which then shifts to marine and finishes with a vanilla amber that lasts until the very end. There’s not much more to say. If you prefer the fig-algae combo, try Lorenzo Pazzaglia’s Artik Sea or Capri Profumo’s Io; if you favour algae-wood, Almah’s Nautilus or the practical Formentera by Mar de Ibiza are superior; and if you’re after fig-wood, Botanicae’s Meraki or Diptyque’s Philosykos are better options. From around eighty pounds, there are many niche fragrances that achieve the same thing with excellence. Is it a bad perfume? No, it’s decent, but it’s hyped and reformulated. It doesn’t stand out or offer anything original, sticking to the mass-market aquatic profile used by many mainstream brands and niche houses. When I tried it, it reminded me of Maison Tahiti’s Sel-Vanille and Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Salina. It lasts about seven hours with good projection for the first hour. I wear it in the heat and anywhere except formal events. As I always say, don’t rely solely on the rating; always test on skin before buying and don’t trust the scent on the paper.
