Habdan by Parfums de Marly is an oriental vanilla fragrance from the olfactive family, created in 2013 and designed for men and women. Its olfactive pyramid unfolds with top notes of saffron and frankincense; a heart composed of apple, woody nuances, and rose; and a base that evokes myrrh, caramel, and ambergris. The composition was signed by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian.

It doesn’t smell bad, basically it’s incense with apple. I don’t find the incense metallic like in Loewe 7, it’s softer, nothing invasive. The downside is that it projects little and the longevity isn’t the best, plus the price. Still, I liked the scent. I recommend it for any weather and see it more for everyday wear. I also think it’s more masculine than feminine, although it says unisex.
It’s a rather dark fragrance with a mysterious aura. The opening is discreet; you can detect the contained myrrh, some green apple and caramel. It’s an exuberant, exotic and very easy-to-wear scent. It reminds me a lot of Acqua di Parma Oud, they are similar. For me, Habdan is an autumn composition that unleashes magic and transports you to the Middle East. Its weak point is the trail and projection. It’s a unipersonal scent noticeable in the first hour, but then it stays with you for about 6 hours. For me it’s a pleasure, but it’s not the one that announces itself at every step; it’s discreet but very elegant. Fragrance 9/10 Trail 7/10 Projection 6/10 Longevity 8/10
Normally with fragrances we get spectacular openings that then fade. Commercial perfumers usually nail the opening to sell… but with Habdan it seems they did the opposite. A perfectly decent, well-made opening that only gets better with time. I say that out of all the perfumes I’ve tried, this takes the crown for being the most evolutionary. A hidden gem from Parfums de Marly that should have more punch. I’ve enjoyed it more than Carlisle and almost as much as Herod and Layton. I struggle to describe it; it’s mysterious, elegant, and the base notes give a sweet cleanliness. It’s not heavy and suits winter, spring, and autumn… It’s not very projective nor does it last beyond 4-5 hours… nothing a dupe or layering can’t fix… if one can afford it, although the price of Habdan seems excessive.
The only PDM I don’t wear. Don’t buy it blindly… The iris and incense are beastly, too oriental for my taste. I don’t see it as elegant on the skin… a disaster… Even my girlfriend, who is a PDM fan, didn’t like it.
Full on resinous amber. Rich and characterful.
