First review on Fragrantica; I don’t usually like reviewing, I prefer reading, but this unknown and recent perfume deserves it. It is basically an oriental with good longevity (7-8 hours projecting, more than 10 hours on skin). It has a trail, along the arm, noticeable but not one that fills rooms. Performance is excellent. I detect incense, apple, cinnamon and woods. It is autumnal and wintry, serious and elegant, yet pleasant and comforting. Exceptional quality for its price. If you are looking for a serious and elegant oriental (for 25 years and up, although that’s relative, I wore Chanel No. 5 at 21), I recommend it wholeheartedly.
Excellent oriental perfume at a spectacular price. From the start, super smoky, with warmth reminiscent of Oajan by Marly. This budget jewel hides a spiced, warm and smoky juice with subtle sweetness. At the beginning, incense, cinnamon and apple stand out. After 20 minutes, leather appears, balanced and nothing aggressive, which I find wonderful. As it dries down, the amber sweetens the final phase. I don’t detect oud. It feels elegant and nocturnal, though it can be worn during the day. Good trail and 10 hours of longevity on skin, more on clothes. Ideal for lovers of orientals in autumn and winter. Totally unisex. I loved it. Scent 9/10, Longevity 8.5/10, Trail 8/10, Value for money 10/10, Versatility 7/10, Packaging 7.5/10. Would I buy it again? Yes, without a doubt.
Smoky, woody, spiced and warm perfume. The note that stands out most is cinnamon. Incense also makes its mark, giving a dark touch, but not liturgical. I don’t perceive leather, but rather an amber that adds warmth and dark sweetness. The woods are in the background, eclipsed by the cinnamon. It’s not for me; I’m not a fan of cinnamon in perfumes and it becomes cloying. It’s like smelling freshly baked smoked apple and cinnamon tart.
Summer isn’t the best time for Sultan Noir, but it is a good opportunity to take advantage of offers. It is clearly a winter scent and a safe, affordable bet for lovers of oud. Those who know music will understand how violin rosin smells; Sultan Noir recalls that sweet tree resin. At first, it seems like an apple tart, but then it changes into a resinous log dripping with sap and incense. I keep it for personal enjoyment, to sniff and store, as it makes me melancholic. Others might find it warm, but to me it feels lugubrious and sombre. It transports me to decadent places: Soviet conservatories, Sherlock Holmes’s study with an abandoned pipe, or the coffin of some horror star. It’s my own thing, a crossing of memories. Objectively, it is exquisite. Declared unisex, I find it more beautiful as a masculine fragrance, enhancing a man’s mystery.
Apple, cinnamon and incense? Where? On my skin, this smells of lemon, something mentholated, strong and unpleasant, reminiscent of Reflex. Nothing like the reviews, and I can’t find a trace of any of the notes. I like powerful perfumes, but this isn’t one; it simply smells bad.
