  • A very good perfume, unjustly ignored. It boasts a powerful leather note, distinct from Tom Ford or Acqua di Parma. It is sharp, animalic, dark and makes the flowers stand out, balanced by an almost imperceptible oud. A rich aroma, with a potent sillage for the first hour before moderating. It envelops you in a warm bubble for 7-8 hours. Recommended for evening wear; you will definitely turn heads. Rating 8/10. I would give it 9 if it lasted longer, but it is excellent and highly recommended.

A truly fascinating composition. It is leather, but has nothing to do with Tuscan Leather or the Arabian Breed collection. It features violet, yet sweet like chewing gum or Flavigny’s Des Anise, not like petrol in Fahrenheit. Heliotrope adds a vanilla note that softens the leather. Oud is secondary, providing just a touch of warm wood. Ambergris contributes that animal and mineral nuance that enhances the leather. It smells of musk and almond. Longevity is good, over 8 hours, with a close, intimate sillage. Mysterious, sexy and enigmatic. It bears no resemblance to Fahrenheit or Cuir de Lancome; comparing them based on bergamot or violet is like saying Bleu de Chanel is similar to Aventus. It does recall Chanel Les Exclusifs’ Cuir de Russie a little: both are leather-floral, but Chanel leans floral whereas Kuhuyan leans animal. A hidden gem.

  • Zzz… The Arabian Breed collection from Parfums de Marly has been discontinued. Kuhuyan, the oldest breed, doesn’t deliver on the promised nobility. It’s a soft leather with violet, jasmine, and powdery tonka bean. Modest performance, unisex, and easy to wear. It’s good but boring; I don’t understand the connection to horses. Hamdani is far more interesting. Comparing it to Dior Fahrenheit is a rookie mistake; they have nothing in common. It passed without fuss or glory. If you’re looking for something dirty and animalic, look at Xerjoff Oud Stars or Bortnikoff. Marly fans prefer the sweet and easy, so this collection pleases no one: boring for the loyalists and too soft for the hardcore.

Modern cut: a clean floral opening with a herbal touch. On the skin, the leather isn’t musty or heavy, but airy, like brand-new gloves. Paired with the violet (Fahrenheit original style) and heliotrope, it creates a creamy, balsamic woody base. The oud is transparent. The result is a delicate leather, almost excessive, with a strange green note that leaves it in no-man’s-land. It’s not bad, ideal for those seeking something personal and discreet.

A very particular leather. The opening is smoky and resinous, almost like tar, reminiscent of a slightly aggressive, soot-stained leather. However, it softens over time, becoming powdery and much more friendly. Worth it if you enjoy leathers.
