Slow Explosions kicks off with a potent apple, saffron, and rose over a subtle leather. It smells quite linear, with few nuances and a slightly artificial edge. The longevity on skin is good, but I think it fails on projection. Still, it’s noticeable. The apple and rose blend gives it a slightly feminine touch. Josh Meyer clarifies there’s no real apple, but he did aim to recreate it and succeeds; to me, it’s the dominant scent. The problem is the overall result smells unnatural and ill-defined. Personally, the scent doesn’t attract me at all.
Slow Explosions kicks off with a potent apple, saffron, and rose over a fine leather. It smells quite linear, with few nuances and a slightly synthetic edge. It lasts well on the skin but falls a bit short on projection. Still, it’s noticeable. The apple and rose blend gives it a somewhat feminine feel. Josh Meyer states there’s no real apple, yet he intended to recreate it and achieves it, as it’s the scent that grabs my attention most. The issue is the overall blend smells unnatural and very ill-defined. For me, the scent doesn’t appeal in the slightest.
I’d been wanting to try this for ages; the story fascinated me, but my fear of the notes held me back—I’m not a fan of leather or rose. I managed a decant, and upon trying it, my head exploded. It’s exactly what you look for in a niche: it opens with prominent, burnt, smoky leather, yet blended with multiple elements at once, as if surrounded by spices; the apple is noticeable, giving it a slightly sweet touch. It’s creamy and dense; the rose is there but not the star. Honestly, I can’t see a perfect occasion to wear it, but as an olfactory experience, it blew my mind—it’s a great composition.
