  • Concluding with the Montale trilogy of this journey, although I could make another, I will only refer to the trilogy: Montale Full Incense, Montale Patchouli Leaves, and today Montale Aoud Intense. I cannot say why there is so much similarity between the Black Aoud of 2006, for men only, and this Aoud Intense for men and women. Comparing notes, I only distinguish French labdanum in the composition of the 2006 version. The rest is the same. I am not saying the concentrations or chemical formulas are identical, only that the notes are similar. If we continue with the analysis of this Intense Aoud formulation, it does not contain labdanum, so it is perceived as somewhat less resinous and musky than the 2006 version. If I focus on the fragrance, I do not see a greater development of intensity in the opening, rather a controlled lift of the Aoud note softened in the centre with roses, which gives a floral halo and sometimes a sweet touch with the patchouli. All notes are supportive, as is customary in this type of fragrance, since the Aoud is what predominates. Lacking originality, more of the same, and without its own identity. I bought it expecting the development to be different; perhaps I expected more versatility, but I was left waiting. Very good fragrance with the characteristic Montale seal; do not expect a flood of genius, but rather expect them to continue triumphing with the winning formula of the 2006 Best Seller. The previously misunderstood difference is that the fragrance today, Black Aoud Intense, is a unisex formulation. Regards.

I must say I prefer the original version, a little lighter, less potent in the characteristic note. This Intense is, in any case, a good job, a spicy-fruity oud that is noticeable for quite some time (4 sprays are sufficient) and I have noticed it with good presence while walking around the city. The scent is in line with several proposals I have already tested, surely well-crafted and with good personality. A house that deserves to be explored more attentively, as, unlike others, it takes into account the budget of its potential clients and offers various ways and prices to approach its creations. A well-deserved applause, Montale.

I loved the quality of this perfume, a fixation I rarely experience. The first time I tried it, I sprayed it on my hand and it was so impressive that I washed it several times, cleaning my home with bleach, and it still smelled. Its main note is oud, but the rose is felt almost equally. It is a strong but elegant unisex; apply a little because of its intensity. I loved it for being outside of what one is used to smelling in perfumes. I reiterate that this perfume is an extract; nowadays, most perfumes, even expensive niche ones, do not last and project poorly. This one, however, is a king of perfumes; for me, it is a jewel in my collection. My utmost respect and admiration to Montale.

A perfume, one of the best in my collection. The quality and potency stand out; it lasts me more than 12 hours and projects a tremendous amount.

One of the best with oud from Montale. And here we go… This time it is a strong Indian oud tamed by a rose that, gradually, as it moves from the opening to the dry down (3-4 hours), becomes the master of the scent and gives it a seductive and elegant touch. Long-lasting and addictive. No wonder they call it ‘Intense’. Although oud is usually mature and masculine, this is the most unisex you can find in this line of perfumery. In the niche world, it is among the best in this note where the house is a specialist; it is not challenging or difficult to wear (logically, in summer, an Acqua di Giò or a citrus is better) nor is it too expensive.

An elegant perfume with excellent projection and lasting notes. You need patience to see how the scent evolves. It is not for everyone; I was told it smelled of death due to the rose and wood, although others appreciate the patchouli. It is for occasions where you want to draw attention, and you need character to wear it.

  • Juanch1las

It’s an elegant perfume with good projection and longevity, but you need patience to see how it evolves. It’s not for everyone; some find it overpowering due to the rose and wood notes, while others adore the patchouli. Ideal for turning heads, but it requires character to wear.

A requiem in rose and oud. Some perfumes shout, others seduce, but a select few impose silence. Black Aoud Intense belongs to that last category. From the very first moment, it asks for no permission: it steals your breath, placing you in an emotionally charged scene where time seems suspended. If I had to compare it to an image, it would be a funeral day: thick mist, black garments, withered petals on wet earth. The opening is an aromatic incision. There is no sweetness, no concessions. The oud enters like a scalpel: sharp, medicinal, resinous, with that metallic and slightly animal note that Montale masters so well. Yet it is not the dirty oud of other, more extreme niches. Here there is clinical cleanliness, as if the pain were contained, ritualised. Immediately after, the rose appears: dark, dry, almost funereal. It is not a romantic or garden rose, but a pressed rose between pages, with a hint of incense and dignified decomposition. It has something ancient, something eternal. The heart and base exude a persistent solemnity. As it develops, the perfume becomes more earthy, deeper, with notes of wet patchouli, cedarwood, and a slightly amber base that holds the composition without heating it. The fragrance does not transform radically, but maintains a very intense emotional tension for hours. What strikes is its ceremonial character. Every inhalation feels like entering a silent chapel, with decomposing flowers and consumed candles. It may seem exaggerated, but this fragrance places you in a specific mood. It is introspective, heavy, almost liturgical. As for performance, there are no surprises: beast mode in a black suit. A single spray on clothes can last days. In fact, it is recommended to apply it moderately if you do not wish to turn the surroundings into an aromatic mausoleum. Projection is extremely high, longevity is eternal. It is a fragrance that demands a state of mind or an occasion. It is not for daily life, romantic dates, or the office. It is for those days where presence, silence, and respect are needed. A perfume that accompanies the shadow. It is probably one of the most solemn rose-ouds ever created. It does not seek to please or impress; it wants to mark. And it does so. With the elegance of a well-tailored black suit and the gravity of a wordless prayer. A perfume with symbolic weight. Painful, elegant, hypnotic. Wearing it is accepting that there is also beauty in sadness, that even grief can be perfumed. It is not just a perfume… it is a ritual act.
