The composition juxtaposes aldehydic freshness and green tea tones with a floral-spiced centre and a resinous, woody depth.
At the opening, aldehydes, angelica, tea and mandarin set a tidy, airy tone. There is sparkle from the aldehydes, a herbaceous muskiness from angelica, and a dry, infused quality from tea supported by mandarin.
The middle places magnolia beside ink. The magnolia is white and faintly powdery, which tempers the slate-grey, mineral impression of ink and lends the heart a literary, paper-like feel.
Spices are layered generously: nutmeg, pimento, coriander, caraway and cinnamon. The fresher, aromatic side comes through in coriander and caraway, the warmer side in nutmeg and pimento, with cinnamon providing roundness rather than sweetness.
The base of incense, patchouli, vetiver, cedar, amber and labdanum restores a classic chypre balance. Vetiver and patchouli bring structure and dry earth, cedar adds polish, while amber, labdanum and incense supply warmth and lift.
In terms of accords, the fragrance moves from aromatic, citrus, floral and aldehydic hints towards woody, ambery ground, shifting from fresh spice to warm spice with musky, powdery veils. It wears as genuinely shared, rather than leaning one way.
It will suit wearers drawn to present-day floral chypres, to tea, magnolia, aromatic spice, vetiver and incense, and to shared fragrances with restraint and detail.
