Descripción

Moment Supreme by Jean Patou is an oriental floral fragrance for women. Launched in 1929, this composition was created by perfumer Henri Almeras. The top notes reveal lavender, geranium and bergamot; the floral heart unfolds with cloves, jasmine and rose; while the base settles on a warm amber.

  • To be honest, I don’t detect much lavender in this fragrance; perhaps I’m used to a sharp lavender that always dominates, whereas here it’s softened. The clove, which is usually very narcotic, is very subdued and hidden behind what I detect most: lots of amber, honey, a slightly herbal rose, ylang-ylang, and a soft touch of lilac. That is, for me, Moment Supreme. Without a doubt, it’s an interesting composition. Personally, I prefer Amour Amour or L’Heure Attendue, let alone Joy, but Moment Supreme has its own merits, and besides, it definitely has a slightly oriental side that the others lack.

  • I checked a 200 ml bottle of ‘Parfum-Cologne’ as per the label. It opens citrusy, with geranium and a soapy lavender. The bergamot fades quickly, but the geranium lingers, blending with subtle florals. To me, it sounds spicy, with a warm, oriental ambience. It lacks the complexity of other Jean Patou pieces that no longer exist, but that is its charm. It could be a basic lavender and amber cologne, very versatile, with that floral base making it almost unisex. When I smell these vintage jewels, I wonder where today’s perfumery has gone. What are we missing?
