Joyita, the 80s gem from Nino Cerruti, the Italian design genius who dressed Hollywood icons and revolutionised menswear. We owe Sharon Stone’s daring look in ‘Basic Instinct’ to this man; she was undoubtedly wearing his Pour Femme. Both the fragrance and the character are a perfect match. I recall her line: ‘I like men who give me pleasure’. Indeed, the Cerruti EDP opening is pleasurable and lustful, with spicy hints of coriander, a coquettish bergamot, and a dark plum liqueur. Rose and carnation take centre stage, accented by honeyed white florals. The base is musky with sandalwood and oakmoss. Fixation and longevity are fabulous, tenacious and subversive. The problem is it arrived after Poison and Clandestine, sinking into obscurity. Yet Poison is smokier, Clandestine fruitier and resinous, while Cerruti bets on spicy honeyed florals with wood and moss of superior quality. An essential for any 80s lover’s divan: a couple of sprays and wait for that forbidden love to banish the boredom.
