I’m eagerly awaiting the Ajolote (axolotl) release.
I don’t have the bottle, but I tested it in-store and wanted to share my thoughts given the lack of reviews. During the test, the Olm hit me like a damp cave: aromas of rocky walls that later yield to a slightly sweet path. It’s strange as expected, but very wearable; it won’t give you trouble like other viral scents from the brand despite the unusual animal it represents. Its rarity lies in being dark and earthy yet with fresh sensations, mineral notes and clean molecules (note the contradiction). I won’t say much more: Zoologist’s perfumery often speaks through its illustrations and here they got it right; it smells like the portrait. It’s a blind, pale, cold-to-the-touch entity secluded in a damp, dark environment. Still, the Olm is fun for those days when you step out of your cave to show the world how strange you are.
I was dying to try this and managed to get a decant. It delivers exactly what you’d expect: watery, with geosmine, mineral and earth notes. Literally smells like a damp, cold cave; it’s not the petrichor of a forest or city, but something cavernous and icy. It has good projection and you get distinct bursts. I sense similarities to Sarah Baker’s ‘Greek Keys’ or ‘Atlante’, perhaps due to the algae. Overall it’s not my style, but if you like aquatics, you’ll surely enjoy it.
It feels like a fresh, luminous aquatic floral with earthy and wet stone undertones, evoking a sense of iodised petitgrain. It smells very peculiar, strong and astringent; at first it reminds me of nothing, but it’s ideal for spring or warm days. Others find it dark, but to me it conjures the vibe of a cenote with a shaft of light illuminating crystal-clear waters, rather than a gloomy cave.
