Petal by MENAGERIE: An Unusual Rose Scent Rooted in Spice and Wood

Petal is a new fragrance from MENAGERIE, arriving in 2026 to sit within the Oriental Floral family. It is designed for both men and women, using a familiar floral idea but weighing it down with darker ingredients.

Perfumer Bryson Ammons is the creator. He builds the scent around rose, jasmine sambac and black pepper on top, then adds Haitian vetiver, coffee and pink pepper in the heart, and rounds it with patchouli, amber and oud at the base.

Petal opens with a delicate rose and jasmine sambac combination, but it never feels soft in a conventional way. The black pepper gives the top notes an instant kick, making the first impression bright, aromatic and slightly electric.

The heart is where the fragrance finds its true character. Haitian vetiver introduces a dry and earthy tone, while coffee brings a subtle roasted warmth. Pink pepper lifts the mood, offering a gentle, fruity bite that keeps the composition moving.

The base is substantial and clearly built for longevity. Patchouli adds an earthy richness, amber supplies a soft resinous glow, and oud wraps everything in a dark, woody finish. The drydown is deep, warm and memorable.

Looking at the main accords, the house lists rose, warm spicy, woody, fresh spicy, white floral, patchouli, oud, earthy, coffee and amber. Those different facets give Petal plenty of depth and make every wearing feel layered.

It is not a shy summer scent. Petal feels most comfortable in colder weather and in the evening, when its heavier, spicier muscles can come to the fore. That said, all the floral brightness up top prevents it from ever feeling heavy or overbearing.

This fragrance is for anyone who loves a rose they can sink their teeth into, with coffee, earthy vetiver and smoky oud nearby. It should satisfy both men and women who appreciate a complex, unisex perfume with strong presence.

Petal is a confident new release from MENAGERIE. Bryson Ammons has created a layered and original scent, one that balances floral elegance with spicy intensity and a solid woody base. For fans of expressive, unisex perfumery, it is a must-try.
