Qasr Al Oud by Al Fares: A Warm, Spiced Oriental for Him and Her

Al Fares has released Qasr Al Oud in 2025, a new unisex fragrance from the oriental family. Its structure pairs zesty top notes with a gourmand heart and a deep, woody base anchored by oud and vanilla.

The name evokes a palace of oud, and the juice itself is just as commanding: rich, smooth, and generously layered, with a bright opening that keeps it from feeling heavy.

The opening is a lively mix of bergamot, cinnamon and nutmeg. This spiced, citrusy entrance sets up a heart of spikenard, Mahonial, praliné and dates. The Mahonial adds a softly floral, musky nuance, while the dates and praliné contribute a sweetness that's more refined than cloying.

That heart is where the fragrance finds its balance. Warm spices keep the sugary edges in check, and the floral undertone adds freshness, resulting in a perfume that feels elegant and contemporary. It's an oriental that works well in chillier weather, and certainly in the evening.

The base rests on tonka bean, amberwood, vanilla, benzion, myrrh and oud wood. This part of the composition is resinous and lightly smoked, but amberwood and vanilla make it creamy and approachable. The drydown is long-lasted and gradually becomes more balsamic and vanillic.

Oud lovers will appreciate that the note is present but polished. It's not harsh or animalic; instead, it's woven into the fabric of the scent, adding warmth and a subtle woodiness. The dominant accords are amber, sweet, warm-spiced and vanillic, with a background hum of fresh spice, flowers, and citrus.

Early reviews have given it an average score of 4.5 out of 5, and it's easy to see why. This is a well-made oriental for those who want something characterful but not overwhelming, and its unisex nature means it works for anyone.

Anyone who enjoys sweet, spiced orientals with a woody foundation will find a lot to like here. It's also a good choice for oud novices, as the oud is smoothed and blended rather than confrontational.

Qasr Al Oud is a strong addition to Al Fares' catalogue. It's comfortable, warm and modern—a versatile fragrance for daily wear or special occasions, with just enough edge to keep it interesting.
