Rock Salt: A Mineral, Woody Unisex Perfume from Maksim Perfume

Rock Salt is a new unisex fragrance from Maksim Perfume, launched in 2026. It has been created by perfumer Maxim Bortnikov, who places salt at the heart of the scent.

Bright citrus, warm resines and smooth woods come together in a composition that feels both mineral and enveloping. This is a perfume with real presence, designed for those who like to stand out.

At first spritz, the scent opens with bergamot, petigrain, green mandarin and elemi resine. The effect is fresh, slightly bitter and luminous, introducing the salty theme with clarity.

In the heart, salt is joined by ambergris, beeswax, orris root and mastic gum resin. Labdanum adds an ambery, balsamic warmth, while the iris brings a powdery softness that keeps the blend from feeling too sharp.

The base is built on sandalwood, amyris wood, Haitian vetiver and Siam benzein. These notes form a creamy, woody foundation where the salt remains present but never harsh. The dry-down is warm, grounded and quietly distinctive.

The main accords are woody, aromatic, amber, citrus, balsamic, powdery, iris, earthy, animalic and warm spicy. Rock Salt feels layered yet cohesive, revealing a different nuance with every wear.

Early reviews give it 4.17 out of 5, based on six ratings. It is a small sample, but it suggests the fragrance has already caught the attention of perfume enthusiasts.

This will suit anyone who likes unisex perfumes with a mineral, woody edge, a touch of warmth and a quiet sense of mystery.

Rock Salt is a distinctive fragrance that makes salt its guiding thread. Its balance of resins, woods and citrus makes it versatile and memorable, ideal for those who appreciate layered scents.

Interesting fragrance for a freshie. It opens with a mandarin that feels somewhere between green (not yet ripe) and slightly overripe, which quickly evaporates and leaves a totally resinous, lightly balsamic and warm scent. It smells like skin, but warm, like after being in the sun. That latter part lasts for several hours, but always close to the skin. The performance seems average to me; in fact, I find the longevity a little more than decent, but it remains skin-hugging. However, it feels low compared with the beastly longevity the brand is usually known for. Honestly, I can’t find the salty note, but I still think it’s a very good scent.
