Rudens (Осень) by Dzintars: A Classic Oriental from the 1960s

From Dzintars, Rudens (Осень) is a women’s Oriental first released in the 1960s, composed by Bronislava Schwarzman and Milda Gulbe.

Lilac, lily of the valley and rose form the opening, sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli shape the heart, and tonka bean, oakmoss and amber bring a warm, mossy close.

The charm lies in its sense of transition, from a light spring bouquet towards something richer, darker and more enveloping.

The top feels powdered and gently green: wistful lilac, clear lily of the valley and a classic rose that keeps the blend firmly feminine.

Through the middle, creamy sandalwood softens, vetiver lends a dry, earthy, almost grassy edge, and patchouli adds aromatic richness with a warmly spiced character.

The base is the most lingering part — sweet, vanilla-toned and balsamic tonka, distinctly mossy oakmoss, and amber with a sweet, woody glow.

Its score of 4.28 out of 5 from 68 ratings suggests enduring affection amongst lovers of ambery, woody, mossy and earthy accords rather than broad, modern appeal.

It will suit devotees of vintage perfumery, admirers of patchouli, vetiver and oakmoss, and anyone favouring cosy, sweet and balsamic sillage with a nostalgic feel.

All told, Rudens (Осень) is autumn in miniature: floral at first, woody-earthy thereafter, ambery and sweet at the close. A historic Dzintars creation for those drawn to classic, moss-led Orientals.
