Descripción
Sand Aoud by Mancera is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2011, this composition was created by perfumer Pierre Montale. The olfactory pyramid opens with top notes of spices and blackcurrant; the heart reveals a harmony of incense, saffron and rose; while the base settles on a foundation of oud wood, patchouli, vanilla and white musk.

Who told them no to this gem? I suppose they missed their shot. The opening is chaotic, a storm promising something grand. Once it dries, it becomes a true delight: realistic, spicy, and varied spices, like on a market stall. Perhaps that’s where those who can’t stand it come from, but not everything has to be marine berries with ambroxan (thank the gods)! On the skin, it reveals frankincense and soft woods, with background flowers giving it three-dimensionality. The longer it wears, the more masculine it becomes; that woody, incense character reminds me of facets of Tom Ford Oud Wood and the legendary Amber Absolute. It lasts a long time, is potent, and projects in bursts all the time. It’s not as dense as the Tom Fords, but it has its own charm and a price that isn’t disproportionate like ‘others’.
The opening is chaotic to the point of being unpleasant, but as it dries it becomes a marvel.
The opening is chaotic and even unpleasant, but as it dries down, it transforms into something wonderful.
Spicy and fruity opening, sweet ripe fruit, cinnamon, cloves, a spicy touch, saffron, and a very sexy warm amber. The patchouli sticks until the end, giving it power and a fresh green note, followed by a church-quality incense, nothing musty. A subtle rose peeks out, accompanying a creamy, almond-like oud for a couple of hours, before vanilla takes over. It zips along brilliantly, like a proper Mancera; you can’t overdo the sprays because it’s noticeable. They say it’s similar to Amouage Jubilation XXV, which I haven’t tried, but it has the style of Interlude with less wood and musk. It’s versatile for all year round except in intense heat, brilliant for evening and very seductive. I wouldn’t wear it to work because it’s striking. Four sprays are more than enough. I see it as more masculine, but it’s unisex; a woman can wear it perfectly. A magnificent perfume that lasts a long time.
It opens spicy and fruity, with ripe sweet fruit, cinnamon, cloves, and a spicy kick, saffron, and a very sexy warm amber. Patchouli lingers until the end, adding power and a fresh green note, then a church incense emerges—high quality, not musty. A subtle rose appears, accompanying a creamy, almond-like oud for a couple of hours, before vanilla closes the composition. It performs brilliantly as a proper Mancera; do not overapply, as it projects strongly. They say it resembles Amouage Jubilation XXV, which I haven’t tried, but it has the style of Interlude minus the heavy woods and leathery notes. It is versatile for all seasons except intense heat, perfect for evening wear and very seductive. I wouldn’t wear it to work as it is too striking. Four sprays are more than enough. It feels more masculine but is unisex; a woman would wear it perfectly. A magnificent fragrance that lasts an incredibly long time.
How have I let this gem slip by for so many years? It is by far the best Mancera.
