Descripción

Santal Carmin by Atelier Cologne is an oriental woody fragrance for men and women. Launched in 2014, this composition was created by perfumer Jérôme Epinette. The top notes reveal saffron, lime and bergamot; the heart unfolds sandalwood, guaiac wood and white musk; while the base notes complete the pyramid with Madagascar vanilla, Texas cedar and Egyptian papyrus.

  • A fragrance with its own signature, typical of Atelier and unmistakable. Atelier Cologne makes good quality perfumes, full of colour and life, luminous and cheerful. Santal Carmin opens with fresh citrus, green and terpene touches alongside a vibrant saffron, which calms with layers of spectacularly well-blended woods, revealing a heart of creamy, soft sandalwood that beats on its own, with a finish of cedar, papyrus and sweet vanilla that feels caramelised but not cloying. Santal Carmin feels young, modern and current, with good longevity and moderate projection. Although I prefer less fresh, more cinnamonic and dense sandalwoods, like Santal Noble or Sacred Wood. Rating: 5

  • It smells nice, but doesn’t do anything special. It doesn’t surprise you or make you happy when you smell it. It’s a decent sandalwood with vanilla, but for the price of niche perfumes, I think you should expect more. The performance is a pity; it’s barely noticeable close to the skin and fades quickly. I think more is expected these days; being pleasant isn’t enough anymore. This Atelier hasn’t convinced me.

  • Pleasant scent, but nothing more. It doesn’t stand out, surprise, or make you enjoy smelling it. It’s a decent vanilla-sandalwood, but for niche prices, I feel you should expect more. The performance is disappointing, sitting close to the skin and fading quickly. The longevity is short. We must demand more from perfumes; being pleasant is no longer enough. This Atelier hasn’t convinced me.

  • I agree with the previous comments. For me, it’s a very vanilla sandalwood with a very subtle spicy touch. In my case, it does seem too sweet and caramelised, bordering on cloying. It’s pleasant, with acceptable quality and that’s about it. The longevity seemed good to me, with a normal, rather soft trail. I think for that price, something more should be offered.

It suits me well. A sweet citrus opening, certainly due to the saffron. The musk is noticeable, along with the creaminess of the sandalwood and the galbanum, which I like as a woody note. There’s a hint of papyrus and vanilla, but barely perceptible. Ideal for spring and autumn, day and night. Moderate longevity with a soft sillage.

  • It suits me well. At first, it smells of slightly sweet citrus, I suppose due to the saffron. Then I notice the musk, the creaminess of the sandalwood and guaiac, which I love as a wood note. There’s a hint of papyrus and vanilla, but they don’t stand out. Ideal for spring and autumn, both day and night. The longevity is moderate and the trail is soft.

Santal Carmin is another beautiful fragrance from this house. It seems more heavy to me than others (a facet that personally drives me mad), but on my nose, thanks to the saffron, I smell the components as if they were totally natural and delicious. What lovely, concrete sandalwood, and what real yet soft wood and vanilla. Its opening is citrus and masterful, showcasing every ingredient with great appeal. For anyone and on any occasion, provided you like subtle saffron. It lasts quite a while on the skin and makes me feel feminine with a masculine touch from the woods. Sometimes I like perfumes that are a bit masculine, so I recommend trying it first as it’s vigorous, like all Atelier scents. Another one for the list, by god…

  • How delightful it is to smell; I imagine a world of writers or painters in the streets of old Paris. That’s what it reminds me of for me, though everyone is free to imagine otherwise. If anyone likes perfume and people say it doesn’t last, it’s because they don’t know that the sense of smell gets tired. It’s impossible to smell a fragrance for 12 hours straight; after 30 minutes you no longer notice it because your nose fatigues, but someone seeing you for the first time will definitely notice it.

  • I like it. I’m usually into very feminine perfumes, but this opens up a more masculine realm for me, which is why it’s unisex. I like it even though it’s somewhat unknown to me; it’s like another stage of my life, how pleasant. Reading about it and imagining what each person wants is aromatherapy.

  • Santal Carmin could have been a great love for those cold autumn and winter days. It’s a good unisex fragrance smelling of lightly sweet vanilla (like the Vanille Insensée from the same house) and sandalwood… but unfortunately, after 30 minutes, I detect a waxy, dirty base, which I think is the guaiac wood reacting badly with my skin. The trail is moderate for a few hours before settling to skin scent, which lasts quite a while. Pleasant: 6/10 (9/10 without the dry-down). Interesting: 7/10. Versatile: 8/10. Original: 6/10.

  • Although every nose is different, I’ve realised that to judge a fragrance fairly, especially if the verdict is negative, you need to wear it on different occasions, in different contexts and with different moods. At first, SANTAL CARMIN seemed strange yet familiar, nothing unpleasant or special. On repetition, I noticed a certain resemblance to MANCERA AOUD VANILLE, but they aren’t the same. Perfect to have both in the collection. It starts woody, then becomes spiced, and finally ends subtly sweet without ever becoming cloying. I’ll be buying it soon.
