  • Another gem from the 70s that I have the privilege of trying. If you fancy the style of Rockford, Reporter by Cassini, or Ted Lapidus for men, go for it without fear; if not, better run, because the intensity and depth of this old-school scent won’t be to your liking. Thanks to Ifra for banning those animal and mossy notes that I loved so much, I’m forced to hunt for vintage bottles that cost a fortune, but I do it because quality is key for me. And beware of allergens; I find it doubtful, as NONE of the vintage perfumes I own or have tried have given me a reaction, unlike some modern proposals that do. What a classic has slipped through my fingers for so many years. Signor Vivara is a special representative of leather, emphatically coriaceous and animalistic, with a dusty sweetness following a bitter aldehydic phase, opening with a green citrus note, followed by a floral and woody heart, and an animal base. It’s no wonder it’s so dense yet, at the same time, so soft olfactorily. Moreover, the green notes used here, absinthe, galbanum, and other so-called ‘green notes’, are of a very dark green tone with quite a bit of black in the blend. In fact, Vivara seems to evolve from a standard green chypre to an aromatic one, and finally to a floral one. The overall sensation is a walk through a classic Greek Mediterranean landscape in summer, with ancient ruins echoing the sun in the distance and a silent, dazzling atmosphere when gazing at the nearby sea. The bottles also help you visualise that era, with cardboard boxes featuring floral or psychedelic designs typical of Pucci, with the name in gold lettering on a black bar on top. Another charismatic chapter in my personal journey through the vintage world.
