Smoky Mezcal & Cucumber by Dossier is a woody fragrance made for both men and women. Its character comes from the tension between cool greenness and dry smoke.
It opens with cucumber, davana and cade oil. The green, aquatic heart then gives way to a base of woods, resin and earth.
The first impression is crisp. Cucumber offers a watery, green coolness, davana lends an aromatic sweetness, and cade oil adds a dry, woody smokiness around them.
At the heart, galbanum strengthens the green theme with a vegetal, resinous edge. Violet leaf keeps the freshness but makes it sleeker, while aquatic notes prolong the clean cucumber feel.
Myrrh provides the link. Softly balsamic, it rounds the greenery and ushers in the woods with restrained warmth rather than overt sweetness.
The drydown brings together guaiac wood, patchouli, cypriol — nagarmotha — and oud wood. Patchouli and cypriol supply earthy depth, while guaiac and oud create a dense, lightly smoked woody structure.
Taken as a whole, green, ozonic, aquatic, balsamic and woody accords sit alongside amber, warm spice, a whisper of sweetness and aromatic, earthy nuances. The opening brightness remains faintly visible beneath the timber and smoke.
It will suit those who favour unisex woody fragrances with an edge: fresh green lift at the start and a smoky, earthy, resinous foundation rather than polished sweet woods.
