Descripción
The Favourite by Penhaligon's is a floral musky woody fragrance for women. Launched in 2020, this olfactory composition was created by perfumer Alienor Massenet. In its opening, violet, freesia and mandarin give way to a heart where mimosa, iris and sambac jasmine (sampaguita) reveal their essence. The trail settles on a base of musk, ambroxan and sandalwood.

I remember approaching a Penhaligon’s stand years ago and smelling several fragrances I liked but cannot recall the names. On my last visit to Bilbao I went to the department store to see if I could find something to my taste from this brand. Based on the notes The Favourite looked promising but it seemed very generic boring and did not evolve. I did not detect many notes; simply it smelled like the cologne a girl would wear if given her first cologne as a gift (probably Barbie).
I remember visiting a Penhaligon’s stand years ago and smelling several fragrances I liked, but I can’t recall their names. On my last trip to Bilbao, I went to El Corte Inglés looking for something from this brand. Based on the notes, The Favourite seemed like my pick, but it felt very generic, dull, and lacked development. I didn’t detect many distinct notes; it simply smelled like the cologne a young girl would wear straight out of the box (Barbie-style).
Do not think The Favourite is a Barbie fragrance. Yes the presentation is very pink and many women are put off by pink but this pink is not Barbie. It is a Rococo perfume the Fragonard swing an exquisite pink dress. It is hedonistic gallant evoking love scenes cherubs and country parties. It has a youthful spirit not childish playful and cheerful. It does not reveal itself at first glance; it requires effort. It is not as weak as it seems; when you think you have defeated it it reappears with delight. Perhaps a juicy pear? It is that slipper in the air with a mischievous charm. A bite of sweet tangerine in a field of flowers highlighting the violet and mimosa. You feel the tangerine juice while perceiving the flowers. Finally the iris appears to dust the scene very lightly as if it wanted to glaze it without removing its juicy character. The sandalwood adds warmth and creamy texture to give solemnity to the end. It projects with elegance and discretion but is long-lasting (contrary to what is said about Penhaligon’s). It may not be my favourite because it is too indulgent and overpriced but it is very pretty and well-made. It brightens the day perfect for spring versatile. It is charming 100 feminine. Some will find it very sweet; in my case it errs a little without reaching the level of a treat but of good taste. It does not change your life but makes it more pleasant more pink.
Smells wonderful reminiscent of a sweet shop or a cream cake in a park filled with iris and violets. A little further away the mimosa; all fresh at their prime spring moment freshly watered. The tangerine with soft hints of jasmine musk and ambroxan that recall ambergris. As it dries the violet stands out like those flower-shaped sweets in all their splendour. The scent is soft and subtle reminiscent of Lancôme’s Idole but with more facets heading in that direction.
Short and sweet: it smells like red fruit bubblegum. A fresh, pleasant, and very light scent.
To be brief: it reminds me of ‘tutti frutti’ bubble gum. It’s a pleasant, fresh, and light scent.
Purely floral fragrance! They achieved sweet violets that don’t smell powdery. It feels natural with a very pleasant floral sweetness; they removed the vintage style from the violets and now they smell hyper-realistic, like a fresh bouquet. Average to low longevity, but a high sillage for the first two hours, then about four more hours close to the skin.
The Penhaligon’s favourites! A sweet, finely spun mandarin with violet, a drizzle of mimosa, and jasmine tea. The creaminess of the sandalwood gives it a velvety texture, like touching something fragile for fear of breaking it. You smell like sweet powder clinging to the skin, making you feel beautiful. This is how Maria Antoñeta would smell in her period dresses. Scent: 🧁🧁🧁🧁 Longevity: 🧁🧁🧁
If you love violets, this is your perfume. That’s the star note and what stands out the most. Paired with mimosa, musk, and iris, it gives it a powdery touch but nothing old-fashioned. Perfect for a spring outdoor wedding. It’s subtle, elegant, sweet, and tender, like a little Barbie princess.
If you adore violets, this perfume is for you. The violet is the star and what stands out most, accompanied by mimosa, musk, and iris, giving it that powdery touch but nothing old-fashioned. Perfect for an outdoor wedding in spring. It’s subtle, elegant, sweet, tender, and delicate, with that little Barbie princess style.
Beautiful. Nothing new, yet wonderfully pleasant and feminine. They say it’s violet-based and I can detect it, though the mandarin, mimosa, and jasmine steal a bit of the spotlight. It’s not as overt as in other violet fragrances. Over time, it becomes powdery, creating that second-skin scent that’s intimate yet long-lasting. It’s spring-like, perfect for daytime wear. Ideal for April and May when it’s cool but not too hot.
Beautiful and pleasant, though not entirely new. Very feminine. Although it’s described as violet, I detect mandarin, mimosa, and jasmine diverting the focus slightly; it’s not as direct as other violet scents. It gradually powderys to create that second skin effect, close and long-lasting, and lovely. Ideal for spring, April and May days when the chill fades but the heat hasn’t set in yet.
