Halfeti Leather by Penhaligon's

I own several Penhaligon’s, and this Leather from the Halfeti family is the one that has left the deepest mark on me. If the original felt like a dark, spiced journey, here the leather twist completely changes the game: deeper, more mysterious, and undeniably adult. It opens intense with spices, dried citrus, and that dense sweetness characteristic of the line, but within minutes the leather emerges—elegant, polished, and smoky, nothing animalic. I simply adore the contrast between the warmth of the spices and the darkness of the leather. What truly surprises me is its evolution; with every wear, I notice different facets, sometimes the hidden rose, other times the balsamic resinous accord. It is not linear, unfolding in layers, which makes it even more appreciable. It lasts easily for eight hours with a good trail for the first three or four. Curiously, I tend to fatigue before it does, but those around me comment on its presence until midday. Ideal for elegant settings, cold nights, or special events.

This is a marvel. The price is outrageous, but the quality is astonishing. The notes dance with incredible harmony. It is unique, elegant, and deceptively simple to grasp yet complex to deconstruct. It is bold and discreet at the same time, a difficult balance to achieve. The creator deserves a monument. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, San Miguel de Loewe comes close from a distance for an untrained nose, though it lacks the same sophistication and depth.

Together with Comme des Garçons this is the best that Puig distributes. A niche that lives up to its essential notes. It seems elegant challengingly sexy and perfect for a cocktail dinner; it is not versatile. It opens green and fruity; its leitmotif is leather with woods and flowers resting on a cushion of incense and oud. It is an oriental leather where the Halfeti rose (the black Turkish rose) plays its role. It is slightly spicy and dirty but not excessively so. It is expensive but worth it; it is a safe investment that will make you stand out. I discovered it out of curiosity about Penhaligon’s and it has not disappointed; among my few fragrances I catalogue it as a jewel. It does not become heavy to wear another advantage. I will debut it on the first cool evening dinner that comes my way without rush but without pause.

You can say what you like about Penhaligon’s but their creations have elegance and affable behaviour woven into their DNA. They do not shout with sharp notes; instead they penetrate subtly and project warmth. This is true of this Halfeti Leather masterpiece. If you test it on a dry skin or in a shop alongside other fragrances you will never know it for what it truly is. It is highly evolutivo; after two hours it seems like a completely different scent. The opening is sparkling appearing more luminous or spring-like than it really is hiding the darker sequences of its development. You detect effeminate tones with spices (I smell black pepper even though I cannot see it) and a floral touch; the leather gets a little dirty but to call it Leather I do not think it is dominant (in my opinion and on my skin). It has good longevity and sillage remembering that Penhaligon’s does not make ‘best mode’ fragrances. I believe it is unisex mature and suited for warm weather just like Halfeti Leather itself.

A challenging and distinguished fragrance. At first, the leather and a sweet, spiced part are noticeable. As it develops, the plum fruitiness intensifies, along with a aged sweetness and a touch of salt. The nutty note is also quite prominent, especially after two hours, fusing together and rounding off the scent. It is noble, accessible, and stands out, particularly in enclosed spaces and during cold, nocturnal evenings. Recommended, although its weaknesses are limited versatility and the high price; there are similar options available at a more accessible cost.
