Rather than a pale, sugary vanilla, it explores shadow and warmth: a toasted opening, a resinous glowing centre, and a mellow, caramel-toned drydown.
Tobacco, coffee and cocoa pod open the scent with a roasted, almost dry impression. Think cured leaf and freshly ground beans keeping the gourmand side firmly framed.
At its core lie Lava and Ember, fanciful notes evoking molten rock and live coals. Tolu balsam and labdanum lend resinous weight, while orris root softens the edges with a refined, powdery veil.
Vanilla then comes to the fore, folded into caramel. Soft suede gives a supple, velvety finish, with patchouli underneath adding earthy depth and structure.
The broader character blends amber, powdery, sweet, musky, leathery and warm spicy tones. Cocoa, tobacco and iris shape the mouthfeel, at once comforting and faintly smoky.
It unfolds in stages, from dark roast to glowing resin to smooth caramel vanilla. A contemporary oriental with plenty of texture and presence.
